City Mechanic Wrecks Philly Police Car, Flees

This is simply fantastic, and it gives you an idea of the types of people this city hires.

D’oh! That legendary Homer Simpsonism likely served as the word of the day for a city Fleet Management employee who got into a car accident while driving a police cruiser in Feltonville - and then left the scene.

Police officials said the cop car was being serviced yesterday at Fleet Management’s headquarters, at Front Street and Hunting Park Avenue.

The employee, who was not identified, took the cruiser out for a road test about 1:20 p.m. and whacked another car less than a block away, police said.

Rather than stay at the accident scene, the city employee fled - all the way back to his headquarters.

The other motorist called 9-1-1 and reported the hit-and-run. Members of the police Accident Investigation Division were called to the scene and quickly sized up the situation, police said. (H/T - Philly.com)

I giggle because this is funny, but I also giggle because if I was still in patrol, I can guarantee you that would have been my car. That would have been just my luck!

Uh, you wrecked a police car. I think they will figure out who left it at the scene. Idiot. I wonder what story he gave when he returned without the car. I wonder who that guy is related to in order to have that job in the first place.

Accidents can happen but to flee the scene of the accident is so totally stupid and presumably brreaking the law - it would be over here!
