Italian Sunbathers Ignore Dead Bodies

By Wyatt Earp | July 21, 2008

Never mind the corpses, they don’t take up much space.

(CNN) — Italian newspapers, an archbishop and civil liberties campaigners expressed shock and revulsion on Monday after photographs were published of sunbathers apparently enjoying a day at the beach just meters from where the bodies of two drowned Gypsy girls were laid out on the sand.

Well, why should a couple of bodies ruin a day at the beach?

Local news reports said the four girls found themselves in trouble amid fierce waves and strong currents. Emergency services responded 10 minutes after a distress call was made from the beach and two lifeguards attended the girls upon hearing their screams.

The Web site of the Archbishop of Naples said the girls were cousins named Violetta and Cristina, aged 12 and 13.

12 and 13. Kids! And these two despicable people couldn’t care less. The term “monsters” comes to mind.

Their bodies were eventually laid out on the sand under beach towels to await collection by police. Photographs show sunbathers in bikinis and swimming trunks sitting close to where the girls’ feet can be seen poking out from under the towels concealing their bodies. A photographer who took photos at the scene told CNN the mood among sunbathers had been one of indifference. (CNN)

Absolutely disgusting. Nothing else to say.

I would have borrowed their towels to dry off….they’re not gonna need them anymore, right?

Apathy is one of the lowest levels humans can sink to. It shows an unbelievable hardness of heart which is very scary.

Some of my friends have been to Italy and they tell me that Gypsies are despised there, simply despised. Most Europeans look on Gypsies like they are untouchables.

If I’m not mistaken, KYP is completely correct.

Remember that the next time someone tells you how “Enlightened” Europeans are.

Oh yes. I enjoy reading British and European newspapers, until they get oh so sanctimonous about Obama.

And when will you have a Black Prime Minister? Great Britain, Spain, France anyone? Bueller?

his is why the Euros loved the Clintons. Selfish, sociopathic, egocentric narcissism is a common trait over there.

Of course, the infection has spread here. H.T. This recent post by Wyatt.

As long as the cameras are rolling the ‘compassion’ will be flowing.

I had students on a trip to Italy get mistaken for gypsies. They feared for their safety.

But we are the barbaric animals in the U.S., right? This reminds me of the dead baby girl in the gutter in China that people just passed by.

    Sick.

I can attest to the fact that the gypsies are despised here in Italy. Whether that explains the picture, I don’t know. There’s also a live-and-let-live (no pun intended) attitude that borders on apathy. I don’t know. That image is absolutely revolting. Whatever the full story, however, I don’t think wholesale condemnation of Italy and a generalized view that Italians are heartless is called for. Before you blast me, Wyatt, I know you didn’t say that in your post. It’s some of the commenters that seem to be leaning that way.

Randal – Good point, bu then they’d have to see the kids’ faces . . .

Deanna – Agreed. If they had to go to the beach that day, re-locate to another area FAR AWAY from the bodies.

Ky person – Coming from part-Hungarian descent, I find that pretty disgusting.

BZ – But I thought Europeans were the most tolerant culture on earth! /Snark.

Captain – It would certainly not apply to these two slobs.

Ky person – Right after Germany elects a Jewish one.

Insol – That ER story still bugs the Hell out of me.

RT – They should have told them they were from Canada. Just keep ending sentences with, “Eh?”

MikeB – These two particular Italians are despicable people. And I use the term “people” very loosely.

    To be honest,
i doubt that the sunbathers really noticed they were did. If they were covered, they could have thought that they were simply lying there, not wanting to catch the sun. stories shouldn’t be twisted like this to make people seem like horrible creatures. you have to look at the deeper reason.
