Pimping For A Good Cause
By Wyatt Earp | July 21, 2008
Friend of SYLG RFTR is participating in on August 2nd, the SWIM Across the Sound, run by the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation in Bridgeport, CT. It’s a 25K swim from Port Jefferson on Long Island to Captain’s Cove in Bridgeport.
The event (over 20 years old), raises money to provide cancer education, screening and prevention programs at low- or no-cost for the elderly and underserved. In addition, money raised helps individual cancer patients on a case-by-case basis with specific needs, such as the funding of wigs, prostheses, medication assistance, free transportation to treatments and appointments, day-care scholarships and support groups.
(More information available HERE. )
RFTR is participating in the relay portion of the event. Each member of six person teams rotate in for 15 minutes at a time until the entire distance is covered, resting on a chase-boat in between turns. In the end, they’ll each swim 2-3 miles over the course of the day.
So here’s the important part, which you’ve probably guessed: he’s asking for your financial support. Each swimmer has a goal of raising $1,500. Whatever you can spare would be greatly appreciated–every little bit counts!
To donate, please visit HERE.
If you’d like to help out, send me an e-mail and I’ll forward it to RFTR. Thanks.
