Keeping His Eye On The Ball

By Wyatt Earp | June 15, 2010

In case you haven’t noticed, a lot of my posts about the kids have revolved around Kyle, especially those concerning sports. Kyle plays soccer and lacrosse, plus street hockey in the summer. As a result, Erik gets short shrift, but not because I dote on one more than the other. It’s because the two have games at the same time, and it’s easier for the missus to take the clan to Erik’s t-ball games – because the field is around the corner.

That being said, I was able to catch Erik’s first game of the season this weekend, so I brought the camera. That’s him holding the ball at first base (in the green). This is his first year playing t-ball, and so far he loves it. Loves the fielding, loves the running, and especially loves the hitting.

During the past two weeks, the coaches have been pitching to the players, to get them ready to move away from the tee. Erik’s had some trouble – understandable – as have most of his teammates. During the last inning of Saturday’s game, the coaches agreed to pitch to the players. Each kid would get three pitches, and if they didn’t hit the ball, they would use the tee. Luckily, I was ready:

Nothing like holding the suspense until his third swing, huh? I also liked the fake-out from the first basement, who Erik knows from kindergarten.

That was his first-ever game day hit from a pitcher, and I once again, I’m proud of the boy.

I love the game!! It is my favorite by far. That fake tag by the first basemen would get your son another base if I was Umping it! LOL

It is the only game where the defense controls the ball!!

    Rick – Yep, I’m a lucky guy.

RT – Yeah, and he’s home now, since kindergarten is over. Kyle is in school until Friday. Heh.

Old NFO – With the shift work, it’s a challenge.

BIG – It was a pretty good hit from such a little kid.

Danny – Yeah, Erik was laughing when he tried to tag him, and they laughed more when they were standing on first base at the same time.
