Obama: Learning Something New Every Day

By Wyatt Earp | June 1, 2009

Mmm . . . this is a tasty burger!

Mmm . . . this is a tasty burger!

Unfortunately, he probably should have known a little bit about the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, since he is technically the commander-in-chief of it.

On his trip to get a burger with Brian Williams at Five Guys this afternoon, the president appears to have learned of the existence of a Defense Department intelligence arm, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, from an agency employee also at the burger restaurant.

“So explain to me exactly what this National Geospatial…” Obama said, after the worker mentioned his employer, according to a video of the event.

“We work with, uh, satellite imagery,” the worker, Walter replied. (H/T - Politico)

The exchange between the clueless Obama and the NGIA employee is a riot, and you can see the video of the exchange HERE.

Now, in fairness, I have never heard of the NGIA, either, but then again, I am not the President of the United States . . . yet.

I’m sure it’s a hoot- but evidently C-Span refuses to let me watch it from outside the U.S. (unless I want to download some software, no thanks.) PHOOEY.

Y’know, perhaps that’s an indicator that there are too many departments, boroughs, offices, divisions, and so forth in Washington. I don’t think anybody knows about ALL of them, there’s just so many.

Do we have a department of silly walks? I would love to head that department.

    For your delectation:

Are you REALLY silly enough Standin’ John? I don’t believe it!

BTW, it’s NGA (National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency), not NGIA. The name is relatively new, as they were formerly known as NIMA, which was a consolidation of smaller agencies like DMA, CIO, DDPO, etc. The government does love its acronyms…

Are you challenging me to a walk-off Alan? Oh, I WILL bring the silly!

No, actually I wasn’t. The only people I feel I need to impress are my family and they already know …

Each morning I greet my grandson with my penguin walk and then proceed to fly off to my penguin hideaway in the forests.

My Grandfather has a similar walk. Not to be silly, it’s mostly likely because he’s 92.

He also managed to out-fish the entire family last week. Yup he’s old but he’s wile.

    Good for him.

I do it to be silly … and to annoy my grandson (aged 12)!
He has warned me NEVER to do it while he is with his friends. I can understand that!
