SYLG’s Fourth Blogiversary

By Wyatt Earp | June 6, 2009

four-horsemen-of-the-apocalypse

The above is a painting of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse by Viktor Vasnetsov. Strangely enough, the fact that this blog is still going strong is a sign of the Apocalypse. Speaking of that . . .

The Top Ten Bad Things About SYLG:
10. This blog gives off carbon monoxide.
9. Pics of fabulous babes are actually doctored photos of Bea Arthur.
8. Too much talk, not enough rock.
7. Unusually long URL guarantees Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
6. I’ve checked the BMV photos of every female reader. The hotties can stay, but . .
5. I keep my kids up all hours of the night reading the comments aloud to me.
4. To make room for SYLG, the Internet permanently deleted Cute Overload.
3. PayPal donations actually go to my growing army of super-intelligent, evil squirrels.
2. Jessica Biel now has a Restraining-Order-A-Day desk calendar.

And the number one bad thing about SYLG is . . .

1. Three words: I post pantsless!

Heh.

When I started this thing on June 6, 2005, I figured it would last about six months to a year. My first blog lasted just under a year, so I assumed I didn’t have the stick-to-itiveness needed to be a steady blogger. I read somewhere that the average shelf life of a blogger is two years, so I expected to be burned out by then. No dice. The fact of the matter is that I am Irish Catholic, so guilt - and a never ending sense of responsibility - kept me going. I wanted to stay at it until I was “successful,” and when I became mildly successful, I realized I couldn’t quit and leave my readers hanging.

It’s a nice Catch-22. At this rate, I’ll be posting when I’m 85.

Not that I’m complaining. I love writing, and love it more when there is someone out there to read it. And that’s where you good folks come in. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Without you, this blog is nothing. Thank you for stopping by, thank you for reading, and thank you for commenting. It is my pleasure to entertain you.

Four years of your life wasted.

Which is also a good way to describe how the voters are going to feel in 2012.

Congrats on the longevity, and puts some damn pants on.

NUMBER 10 should read, “doesn’t give off enough CO2″ if you mean it to be bad, that is.

    Congrats, Wyatt.

Congratulations! You seem to have built up a regular family of commenters saying nice things about you. (By the way, when does the cheque come?)

You’d better warn your growing army of super-intelligent, evil squirrels. Prince Charles wants to kill you all so that lovely cute red squirrels can thrive. Beware the threat from this side of the pond!

(There were half a dozen squirrels sitting beside him but he strangled them all)
