Diana DeGarmo: Worthy Of Your Support
By Wyatt Earp | May 28, 2009
Especially since she throws her support to our troops.
Diana DeGarmo was piped at the post by Fantasia Barrino during the third season of “American Idol,” but the first runner-up is making her mark by making music for the troops, inspired by her visit as the youngest celeb ever to perform for our men and women in Iraq.
“We spent NYE in Saddam Hussein’s palace in Baghdad, then not even eight hours after we left there was a mortar attack, so as we were going through Germany they asked us if we’d mind going to the hospital and seeing the men, some that were hurt in the mortar attack were already there,” DeGarmo reminisced to Pop Tarts in an exclusive interview. “I went through and sat with them and prayed with them. But there was this one young man - he was so young, they kept saying he was so excited to meet us but by the time we got to him he had already fallen asleep and the doctor told us that we had to let him rest because he’d been through a lot. There he was, this young man lying in this hospital bed — all beaten up, cuts and everything. On his chest he had this huge tattoo of the U.S. Army, he was so proud to be there. It was so humbling; my job is so insignificant compared to what they do on a daily basis. That memory will always stick in my mind.” (H/T - FOXNews)
Okay, I’m a fan now. Of course, it helps that she’s hot.

Now, no one who knows me can call me a cynic (cough, choke).
But I started by thinking this was a publicity trip to get her career moving. And maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t.
Turns out to be a moving experience for everyone. Pity she couldn’t wake up that young man with a kiss. Maybe he would have thought he had gone to heaven already!

Sorry, Wyatt. I don’t care if she’s ‘hot’ or not. I’m impressed.
When POTUS does the same I’ll be even more impressed And I don’t mean backed up by 200 pressmen. I understand (hopefully someone can confirm with a link) that your past POTUS would do just those kind of private behind the scenes visits.

She did this interview with Pop Tart? When did they start doing interviews?
I think they should have woken him up. I know he was pissed when everyone told him what he missed.

Finally you got a good story about a Georgian to post!
A friend of a friend of a friend claims she’s a truly sweet & down-to-earth girl. For the heck of it, I’m going to believe them, especially after reading this.

Wonderful story, Wyatt. I’m humbled by her words. She seems very genuine and I give her kudos.

I’m a fan of hers from Idol and I’ll definitely vouch for her being genuine about this and not trying to get publicity. It helps that she comes from a military family and her brother has served in Iraq and Afghanistan a few times over. As a fan though, I will say, download her country EP on iTunes, it has an acoustic version of the song “Thank You” written about her trip with the USO. This is the first time she sang it for her mother:

Diana lost AI because she wasn’t skinny enough, nor did she have the best sob story. But she does have something Fantasia doesn’t have: a career.

Alan B - Most visits by President Bush went unannounced. He truly cared for the troops.
Doghouse - he probably asked, “What was she wearing???”
Snigs - I believe it, too.
Daisy - Yeah, that’s why I posted the story. It’s feel good all around.
Chris - Good stuff.
B.A. - And a face that WON’T stop a clock.
