Janeane Garofalo: Tea Parties Are Racist

By Wyatt Earp | April 17, 2009

dta2

Well, that didn’t take long, did it? To the kook extreme Left, if you disagree with any of this administration’s policies, you must be a racist.

I wonder what their excuse would be if Obama was white?

Liberal actress and political activist Janeane Garofalo, in all seriousness, said activists who attended tea parties are racists with dysfunctional brains in a recent prime-time television appearance.

“Let’s be very honest about what this is about. This is not about bashing Democrats. It’s not about taxes. They have no idea what the Boston Tea party was about. They don’t know their history at all. It’s about hating a black man in the White House,” she said on MSNBC’s “The Countdown” with Keith Olbermann Thursday evening. “This is racism straight up and is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks. There is no way around that.”

You know, I would be insulted by these remarks if they were made by anyone relevant. Luckily for me, Garofalo (and, for that matter, Olbermann) have not been relevant for years.

Olbermann did not once try to challenge her on those assertions. (H/T - The Washington Times)

Wow, there’s a shock. Olbermann fancies himself as an intellectual/journalist, but the fact of the matter is that he is neither. Again, it is a good thing these remarks were made on his show, because very few Americans heard them. Countdown gets less ratings than a Billy Mays infomercial.

Olbermann would be better off abandoning the wingnut talking points and sticking to his strengths: reading sports scores on ESPN. As for Garofalo, I wish she would get the Hell off of 24 - she is easily the weakest link in this season’s cast.

Yeah, her acting (and her character) sucks donkey balls.

    “Actress” - there’s a stretch.

I agree, there are certainly racists who went to these tea parties; just like there are racists throughout society. She’s a whore.

Have Olbermann and Garofalo ever been relevant?

I was trying to explain to the wife why I was opposed to the O-Congress’ policies. I finally gave up and said, “You know what? I don’t like him because he’s black. Iw that what you wanted to hear?”

I know! And she looks like crap in that purple blouse. I want more Chloe, she’s a much more interesting character.

OK. I hate the man in the White House. Skin color has nothing to do with it. I hate socialists like Stalin, Lenin, Chavez and the Castro brothers. I hated President Clinton too.

    Like Rick said.

Agree with Rick, their opinions mean jack. I suppose since she has that BIG shiny forehead, Olbermann asumed she was smart, and we know he’s an a–hole, so there.

Well, since I haven’t watched TV since 2001, I can’t say much for Garofalo’s acting ability in this show called “24″ but I positively loved her performance in “Team America.”

How can anyone take this crazy bitch Janeane Garofalo
seriously. Racists, is the only reply she can come up with. Stick that label in your pie hole Janeane Garofalo, no one in their right mind is going to buy it.

I’m a regular commenter over at Dave Barry’s “24″ liveblog. Even the liberals over there loathe Garofalo…and pretty much everybody is hoping her character gets tortured to death.

Just like Garofalo the comedienne, Garofalo the pundit is insignificant. And speaking of kaveman’s comment, hear hear. Only the people who’ve brought us South Park could possibly get a funny performance out of her in anything.

As for her slur, I’d say to her Get in line. Because I’ve attended a Tea Party and share the opinions and concerns of fellow Tea Partiers, I’ve been called an extremist and a terrorist. Now racist, huh? I’ll be waiting for them to say xenophobic next.

I am actually embarrassed for her. How pathetic and sad. She obviously has some type of disorder and needs to seek professional help. Oh and btw her acting sucks big time. Maybe thats what she was doing on Olbermann….auditioning

Not just racist but mentally ill? How reminiscent of the old Soviet Union. If that gets traction, we get institutionalized for disagreeing with the Discount Messiah and his minions.
I would have voted for Colin Powell or Condi Rice, but they’re Republicans.

Garofalo is the typical liberal - she could speak for any of them. Liberals will do anything to silence anyone who doesn’t agree with their PC - BS. They will try to shout you down, intimidate you, call you names, assassinate your character, etc. Why, because they can’t rationally defend their idiotic PC positions.

I could care less if the entire Whitehouse was non white. I do however have an issue with any bonds they may have to terrorist. And I also would be concerned if they are members of an anti white, anti Israel, and anti American Churches.
It’s amazing when you are opposed to illegal immigrants (the very word illegal tells me I should be opposed. Opposed to higher taxes, pro capital punishments, pro interrogation of high profile terrorist and pro life, this makes you a racist.

I didn’t know that being a bad actress also meant you had a medical degree, or that you was a qualified shrink, and that you could read the majority of this country’s minds.
Read my mind then!!! The liberals keep saying that Obama was not elected because of race…yet they seem to be the ones that are the most upset about race and pulling out the race card. I don’t care what color the man is, I am just not a follower of socialistic beliefs, and if that makes me a redneck, big brained American, than so be it.
I wouldn’t date a man that has consistently went back on what he told me he was about or would refuse to answer questions that I ask about things of importance, so why would I want my President to be that way. The transparent government that I was promised, the tax breaks I was promised (it’s not much of a tax break when you got to pay taxes on it at the end of the year), the spending hand over fist, of money that we don’t even have. The only thing transparent is the promises he keeps breaking, and his narcissistic attitude.

She is the one playing the race card. She should also read the Bill of Rights. There’s something in there about Freedom of Assembly and Freedom of Speech.

Do I hate President Obama? No.

I do not agree with the vast majority of his fiscal policies or his social engineering ideas. Then again, I didn’t agree with everything that President Bush did, either.

Miss Garofalo has stated openly what I personally feel has been implied for a while now. You cannot disagree with the current administrations policies (even if you disagreed with some of the policies of the last one), to do so is to be a racist. I believe this to be incredibly dangerous and so completely opposite of what this country was founded on that I am having problems recognizing our country anymore.

I support free speech…especially the speech that I do NOT agree with. While I am deeply offended by Miss Garofalo’s statements I am glad that, for the time being, she has a right to speak her mind and hope that we are all allowed to continue to do so.

I was always middle class if not lower middle class. I mosve up - got a law degree and have done OK.

I was raised in a loving hard working family and all I remember is that I was happy.

I was a capitalist - but the last 3 GOP administrations has convinced me that Socialism is the correct policy. One 1% of the population make it up many levels and it usually something that is distasteful.

Go GO with universal health care, less demanding work hours, the powerless have a say in their lives.

Screw the rich - their all Paris Hilton or Prez Hilton anyway

Garofalo is not unlike the rest of her ilk. the moment you express an opposing view, you are labelled”:
    “Racist” “Bigot” “Homophobe”
In the Grand Litany of the Left.
Do NOT try to defend yourselves. They cannot understand the concept that you hate Socialism and Socialists no matter what their race or sexual orientation.
If Barney Frank was president, she would substitute the word “homophobe” for “racist” and the rest of the tirade would be the same. These people are dull-witted, naive, uneducated and emotional. Liberalism is a sexually-transmitted disease. Don’t let it infect you!

    To Willie21,
I agree that the Republican party is not without blood on their hands in this financial massacre. Former congressman Grahm of Texas (a Republican), wrote the Commodities Modernization Act which allowed banks to leverage themselves up to 40 to 1 and President Clinton (with significant Republican support) signed it. The last administration spent money at a rate that was positively stunning.
Should we throw the baby (capitalism) out with the bath water though?
Let us be brutally honest…there is a fair amount of socialism in place already in this country. Social Security, ADC, unemployment insurance, and so forth are elements of socialism. To this we want to add universal health care…which frankly baffles the hell out of me. One trip to the DMV should be enough to convince anyone that the government shoud be in charge of as little as possible.
Do we need regulations constraining unabashed self-destructive short-term financial rape by corporations? YES!
Socialism though…sorry…had a Chuck (tv show) flash to my DMV moments…very scary.
Are you powerless? Absolutely NOT! Call your representatives get involved…use your vote! Even if you don’t agree with my opinions (and that is all they are) get involved, make the world a better place.
    To Jerry,
There a lots of actors and actresses that I don’t agree politically with, some of them are bloody great at their jobs. Why stop watching 24 just because you disagree with somebody’s view?
    Generally…
When we keep the discussion on target and refrain from the mud slinging we come off as non-radical. As soon as they can put that label on us they can and will dismiss us out of hand. I would really hope that we can stay away from calling Ms. Garofalo names and simply address the issue of shutting down dissent as racism.
