Blowing A Gasket

By Wyatt Earp | September 28, 2008

Yeah, when it comes to my computer, I’ve pretty much had it. (Actually, lately, I have pretty much had it with my computer, people, and bvlogging, but that’s another story.) Here are my current issues, just so you know why I am so enraged:

1. Firefox Sucks Moose Testicles! I updated to Firefox 3.0 last week, and it sucks. Sucks bad. At least three times a day, I get incessant “hanging” – where the computer just tries to load a page forever and ever without results. When it does, Windows XP – my operating system – is useless. I have to completely shut down, erase my data, and reboot. Basically, I hate Firefox with the red hot intensity of a thousand suns, and I hope the software gets cancer.

By the time you read this, I will have probably already uninstalled it. I won’t go back.

2. Internet Explorer 7 Sucks Less. IE7 is better lately, but not by much. Of course, nothing good that ever happens to me without something bad. IE7 runs like a champ, but for some reason, when I look at SYLG, all of the text is centered. What the frak is that about?

Is anyone else seeing this, because it is not what I intended?

I checked my options and couldn’t find anything wrong with them, and edited my posts to make sure it wasn’t human error. No go. Something’s wrong with the text, and I don’t know what it is. Until then, everyone who reads this garbage in IE7 must think I’m an anal-retentive mental case Hell-bent on centering all of my text. Frak!

Maybe there’s a better solution out there, like Bob’s Discount Computer System, but for now, posting is excruciating. I am seriously considering stopping for good.

Calling All Techno-Weenies! If you can find a way out of one o both of these problems, there is some hard-core pimpage waiting for ya!

UPDATE! Apparently, the centering issue was with the Names post. It’s fixed.

I have no problem with Firefox for Ubuntu Linux or Safari Mac. Your blog looks fine.

You may also want to re-install Firefox without upgrading your existing profile. Just move your profile folder somewhere else, so you get a completely fresh installation, with no themes or plug-ins. Then you can add stuff incrementally.

You might want to try the Opera web browser. I have heard Safari for Windows sucks, so don’t bother.

Have you tried ‘Safari’? I got it free last time I updated my iTunes…

yeah, 3 words: Get a Mac!

Safari may work for you. It works awesome on my Mac, but I would guess that you’ll likely have at least a few issues using it on your computer. Remember, the “real” problem is your operating system, XP.

Maybe you could upgrade to Vista…ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

I use Crazy Browser and have for a few years now. I’ve never had a problem with it and it is very easy to use and navigate.

It usually isn’t a problem with Firefox itself, but rather a plugin. Do you have the latest version of Flash and Java? I’ve found if I leave a YouTube page up for a long time Firefox gets flaky on me – and it’s because of Flash memory leaks.

When Firefox hangs, do you do a Control-Alt-Delete and kill firefox.exe? Much easier than rebooting.

Insol – I deleted FF once and downloaded FF3 fresh. I need to know if everything is centered in IE7, because it is when I look at it at home and can’t understand why.

Ryan – I haven’t tried it, but I’ll look for it.

    Randal – Helpful as always.

Kim – Maybe I’ll try that, too. I am so done with Firefox. Frakkin’ blows!

Jeffro – What I need is a guru to help me through this nonsense. I am pretty sure I have only a few plugins from FF, but it is worst when surfing Yahoo! – especially Yahoo! images. Freezes all the time.

My next confuser is going to be an iMac. I’ve just about HAD it with PCs but can’t afford the buckage for a new anything just now.

Firefox for Mac sucks too. Safari is not a total suckfest on Windows (even Vista), but Randal’s right, the main issue is the OS. Lazybones fell in love with my new MacBook and stole it from me, otherwise I wouldn’t be putting up with this crap.

I miss the Internet of the 90s.

BZ – Macs are for liberal hippie Obama voters. And yeah, I can’t aford one, either.

Dorkelina – I heard so many bad things about Vista, though. Maybe I’ll just stay with IE7. Pisses me off, though, because Firefox 2 kicked ass.
