U.S. Aid Arrives In Georgia

By Wyatt Earp | August 27, 2008

The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Dallas arrives in Batumi.

The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Dallas arrives in Batumi.

And, apparently, Russia is livid about it. Boo frakkin’ hoo.

Russia defended its recognition of two independence-seeking Georgian provinces as a U.S. ship carrying aid docked in Georgia on Wednesday.

The Dallas carried 80 pallets with more than 76,000 pounds of relief supplies, the U.S. Sixth Fleet public affairs office said in a statement, including hygiene items, food, milk and juices.

The cutter is delivering aid as part of a larger U.S. program that has delivered supplies worth at least $20 million to Georgia in early August.

But, doesn’t this go against the conventional thinking that George Bush and the United States is “The Great Satan?”

More than 50 U.S. military flights have also landed in Georgia. And a U.S. Navy ship — the USS McFaul — recently arrived at the Batumi port with 155,000 pounds of bottled water, milk, baby food and other items, the U.S. Navy said.

Because of the Russian military in Poti, the U.S. Coast Guard ship had to dock in Batumi.

Russia has criticized the U.S. program to deliver $20 million of aid to Georgia. One general labeled the move “devilish,” according to The Associated Press. (H/T - CNN)

Yeah, we should really try to be more responsible, like those Russian invaders. Idiots.

RT - It’s a topsy-turvy world over there in Russia. Remember, these people still think Stalin was just “misunderstood.”

What the hell a U.S. Coast guard ship is doing in Georgia? Did it get lost patrolling Florida coast? We’re just asking for trouble, aren’t we?

Bob this is a joke, right? Florida is next to Georgia. Didn’t you learn anything in school.

Seriously, I spent time along the old East German and Czechoslovakian borders during the Cold War years. I noticed that the machine guns and vehicle traps weren’t there to keep us out, but the to keep them in. Suddenly a wall comes down and everyone is a liberty loving capitalist? Bull crap.

The Russian Bear is still brown and still wants to shit in the rest of the free world’s woods. Wake up and smell the poo.

    Les James,

You’re absolutely right! Russian bear has awakened and will protect it’s turf, or whatever it believes is it’s turf. That’s absolutely normal for a self aware, powerful state like Russia or the U.S. for that matter. Russians used NATO scenario in Kosovo almost to the letter, except in much more compressed time frame…

I’m not counting on support from Europe…. (Maybe new Europe, but not the ungrateful #%*#@%’ers we defended during the cold war.)

They think peace grows on trees.

About the aid, I live in New Jersey and I see some people barely making their ends these days around here. Can they send us some aid here too?! Maybe 20 million, just to start with? I’m sick of seeing how the Administration is wasting my tax money on regime changing, nation building, and nurishing #4&ing newly born democracies on the other side of the world while my son’s school looks like a barrack, half of people don’t have decent health insurance and cannot afford to live in the city.

It would help if New Jersey was not a Blue state. The Liberals and Democrats think money grows on trees.

Bob - The Coast Guard goes everywhere the Navy goes, and has expertise in coastal matters. There have been CG cutters in the Middle East, Mediterranean areas for a while now.

Les - Agreed. They want to flex some muscle, but they’re deciding to squash a tiny former Soviet Republic to show how “powerful” they are.

Bob - Hell, then Russia should be getting ready to invade all of the Baltics at this point. Hell, why don’t we let them invade Poland, Sweden, and Finland, too?

Sully - Freedom isn’t free. EOM.

Ostap - Well then, you’re gonna love the Obama administration. Obama sees us all as “citizens of the world.” You think he won’t do the exact same thing when the time comes?

FD - Why, just because Governor Corzine is a tax-and-spend tool box?

    Admiral - Thanks.
