Philly Thug Murders Man, Killed By Police

By Wyatt Earp | May 22, 2011

Yesterday was a very busy in the division. We had a report of a robbery/homicide in the Olney section. Sadly, that homicide turned out to be a founded call.

Moments later, we received word that officers caught the doer in a basement a few blocks away, before shooting and killing him after he lunged at them with a knife.

Police say a 50-year-old male was stabbed in his chest during a robbery in the 5400 block of North 3rd Street. He collapsed moments later at 307 Tabor Road and was pronounced dead by medics at 10:10 a.m.

A witness followed the suspect to the 5800 block of Mascher Street and notified police. Officers located the suspect in the basement of a home and when they tried to arrest him, police say he lunged at them with a butcher’s knife. The officers then opened fire, killing the suspect.

Natch, the media either doesn’t have all of the facts of the story, so I’ll fill in the blanks. The officers found the man in a tiny basement that was about 15 feet by 15 feet. The thug refused to drop the butcher knife – which looked like something out of Crocodile Dundee – so an officer tased him. It had little effect. The man was then tased three more times, and after each shock, he got up and threatened the officers. After the fourth tasing, the man stood and lunged at the officers, knife in hand. The officers fired at the man, striking him several times, killing him.

All in all, a good shoot. That’s little comfort to the robbery victim’s family, but at least this animal won’t be killing anyone else.

No name released yet on the robber/killer? Does he have a prior record? I’ll bet he does.

    Wyatt:
Definitely sounds like a “row-home” basement to me.

Yeah, I’d bet’cha this perp had a revolving door to his cell at the local hoosegow (we also have too many of them here in Ft. Wayne, unfortunately).

Be a big surprise if this was his “first” offense.

Still, a rock-solid reason for high-fives for the PPD and some serious “Miller-Time”.

    Nicely done.

    Roll safe out there.

Sean – Didn’t see it released yet, but signs point to yes.

Bob G. – The three officers involved in the shoot are some of the finest officers you’d ever meet.

Patience and expertise were shown. I hope the LEOs find comfort in knowing we support their decision. I also hope they seriously take the counseling they are offered. Tough thing to kill a man.

Theres no excuse for violence. Murder is murder in God eyes. Two families are suffering. We as human beings should never rejoice over tragedy. In the end we all will be held accountable for our actions. It’s such a shame our world is reduce’s to such dispare.

Whew, scary story. Good job by the Philly PD. Was the guy on PCP or something? you have to wonder

Danny – They have to go to counseling. It’s department policy.

Shenique – Agreed. And if this murderer didn’t kill his victim, both men would be alive today.

Orchid – There will be an autopsy, but I haven’t heard whether he was high or just evil.

Another good shoot,Wyatt. Got to give those officers credit, they tased this guy twice as many times as I would have. Credit too to the witness who followed the perp and notified PPD.

Prayers offered for the victim, kudos to the officers. Only good thing about this is the perpetrator will not kill again.

May the good Lord watch over these brave officers and provide them peace and solace in the coming days.

I know I’ve posted it here before, locker room bravado aside, it is never easy to put someone down no matter how “good” the shoot.

    Good job lads.

FDLE Lew – In this town, you need to give the thug the benefit of the doubt, because even good shoots will be called racist.

Roger – Saved the city a lot of money in court costs.

    Robert B. – Exactly.

Bluwall – Yeah, I’m sure the officers will have their issues afterward, but they fulfilled the first rule of law enforcement; at the end of your shift, make sure you go home alive.

This story is getting sadder and sadder as it develops – I don’t mean the sub-animal that was shot dead – I mean the victim! He seemed like a pretty okay guy. And a big loss. SUCKS
