Hot Bartlett Police Detective Fired

By Wyatt Earp | May 22, 2011

Meet former Bartlett (TN) Police Detective Jennifer Wilson. I say “former” because Wilson was recently fired for doing something pretty stupid.

A female police officer has been fired after getting caught drinking in Hooters while her unmarked, city-issued police car sat in the parking lot. Detective Jennifer Wilson, from Memphis, Tennessee, had been off-duty at the time of the incident, but Bartlett Police said she shouldn’t have been driving a company car on personal time.

Wilson was caught when her boss turned up at the chain-restaurant on New Brunswick Road and saw her car in the lot before discovering Wilson inside drinking with a group of friends.

Is this the worst offense of all time? Of course not. But the department is right; showing up at the bar in an unmarked vehicle is lunacy.

Unfortunately for Wilson, the Hooters incident was the last straw.

The incident didn’t lead directly to her firing but was the last in a long line of errors, according to a nine-page report from a disciplinary review board. The document lists six previous disciplinary issues that resulted in either oral reprimand, suspension, or probation. Wilson also clocked up 1,483 text messages on her city-issued cell phone.

This story bothers me for two reasons. First, racking up almost 1,500 text messages on a city-issue phone is idiotic. Cell phones are really cheap now, Jen. Buy one. Second, hot, blonde police officers are a rarity in this country. Her firing just lowered the median attractiveness of my profession.

Hopefully, Wilson next job will be a waitress at Hooters. She looks very qualified.

Particularly when, in my department, damned near NO ONE has a “home retention” vehicle due to budgetary concerns, gas prices, etc. Text messages? Our cell phones got removed years ago. Stupid, she is.

LDIV – I don’t think the bar thing was a deal-breaker, but the text message debacle certainly was. Just plain dumb.

Watuschski – And now, she joins the ranks of the unemployed.

1500 text messages!? Who does she think she is- Kwame Kilpatrick?

Fenway – She’s cuter than Kwame, and probably won’t end up in prison.

    Wyatt:
Definiterly one of the “down” sides to having a plain wrapper as your take-home vehicle.

If this was her FIRST “offense”, no biggie, but with a track-record like that, she was asking for trouble.
And it always manages to find you under THOSE circumstances.

    Roll safe.

Did his patrol area take him past the place? Just wondering.

Hey, with budget cuts, maybe she was moonlighting? Or working undercover? Checking for Wheelchair access?
    Hey, she’s hot….I’m stretching here!

Well, she wasn’t hanging out and Dunkin Donuts protecting just 5 others, there was probably 40-100 folks that were safe in their drinking and dinner, cheers to her! Now a marked car, would have been more of a deterrent to criminals before entering the establishment… Now, if she and gone home and then driven back to have a few beers, I can see that as a waste of fuel, but stopping by on the way home or on the way in for a few beers shouldn’t be an issue.
