U.S. Softens Iranian Sanction Plan

By Wyatt Earp | March 25, 2010

So let me see if I have this right. The Obama administration threatens and humiliates Israel – a longtime ally – for building homes in their own country. At the same time, they are trying to back away from harsh sanctions against Iran, a known terrorist state that is actively developing a nuclear program. Iran, of course, has also threatened to wipe Israel off the map on numerous occasions.

Snub the ally, and embrace the enemy. Fantastic.

VIENNA — The U.S. has backed away from pursuing a number of tough measures against Iran in order to win support from Russia and China for a new United Nations Security Council resolution on sanctions, according to people familiar with the matter.

Among provisions removed from the original draft resolution the U.S. sent to key allies last month were sanctions aimed at choking off Tehran’s access to international banking services and capital markets, and closing international airspace and waters to Iran’s national air cargo and shipping lines, according to the people.

Russia and China are not our friends. They never were. Why would this administration curry their favor? Similarly, Iran has shown us nothing but contempt and has ignored U.N. sanctions for years. Despite our warnings, they still continued with their nuclear program. Why does this administration believe that they are trustworthy?

I worry that when the shooting war between Iran and Israel comes – and it will – the Obama administration will take their phones off the hook.

More Good News: Obama walked out of the meeting with Netanyahu and left him there with his aides. Stay classy, Barack!

The only real claim that the arabs have to Jerusalem recently (plus or minus a generation or two) is Jordan having taken East Jerusalem in 1948 then the cease fire took over. They tried what Longshanks wanted to do with the Scots…”If we can’t force them out, we’ll breed them out”, at least that worked until the ’67 war when Israel got it back. Applying the same logic to the arabs now, Israel can say, just like the Jordanians did back then, we conquered it back, now go away. And they do:) LOL

It would be interesting to have a total count of how many times that city has changed hands in the last couple of millenia. I think the only country/nation/kingdom that
never conquered Israel/Palistine at one time or another is Switzerland and Liechenstein (snark).

Like you Wyatt I hope that particular shootin’ war never starts, but WHEN it does, and if Iran uses nukes (by then), Israel has the Sampson Doctrine. Not only does Iran go bye bye, but also every other arab/islamic enemy Israel has now, even if they ‘never’ partcipated in the initial attack, if Israel knows she’s going down. Think of where to put about 200 to 300 nukes. We know all of Saudia Arabia would be fused glass, including their precious Mecca and Medina. That would take about 5 to 10 nukes still leaves 190 to 290..LOLOLOL

Israel now knows for sure that the Obama administration is not an ally. IMHO, Obama wants his brother arabs to have nukes. And being muslim himself, he would prefer Israel would go away and has hopes that Iran will make this happen. However, Israel has other plans.

Jon – I really don’t think Israel is itchin’ for a fight, but if it happens, they will be determined to be the last man standing, with or without our help.

Minuteman26 – When an “ally” sets up a meeting with you and doesn’t allow cameras, you know you’re being snubbed.

Krauthammer wondered how we can “soften” our already mushy policy? It must be the consistency of soup by now.

So they want to build some apartments on the side of Jerusalem that does not have any Arabs living in it and it becomes a huge deal, but the whack job in Iran wants nukes and he is to be coddled. WTF?.

I think Rush had it correct today. Israel needs to change the name of their country to Iran and it will rain praise and money from the US upon them.

I feel as though I am in some ring of Dante’s inferno with Obama at the helm. Hopefully, it’s just a bad dream and I will wake up from it in 2012.

    Lisa,
Krauthammer also made the observation that if Netanyahu were an unsavory 3rd world dictator
obambi would pay more attention to him in a good way.
    lol

If Israel would change its name to Cuba, Venezuela or Iran Obummer would love them.

Fenway_Nation – I am guessing he doesn’t have Joe Leiberman over for lunch much.

Lisa – We could actively arm the Iranians.

    Ingineer66 – Absolutely correct.

MeToo – We can start the alarm clocks in November.

Jon – Just like Hugo Chavez!

    Rick – Or North Korea.
