Florida Cheering For Escaped Monkey

By Wyatt Earp | March 24, 2010

I hate to generalize here, but there is something wrong with the people of Florida. Now, while they will never recover from the “We’re too stupid to read a presidential ballot” shenanigans, they are also not helping their case by cheering on an escaped primate. Yeah, you heard me.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – In the hours after a monkey on the lam fell into a woman’s pool and then swiped some fruit from her backyard tree, fans of the wily primate cheered it for avoiding capture.

“Go little monkey, go! No cages for you,” wrote a guy named Jack on the “Mystery Monkey of Tampa Bay” Facebook fan page. (There were more than 21,000 fans of the elusive monkey as of Wednesday morning.)

“I sure hope ‘they’ don’t catch you!” wrote a woman named Kathleen. “Why can’t ‘they’ just leave you alone?”

The rhesus macaque monkey has avoided capture for nearly a year. Authorities don’t know where the animal came from, but some believe it could have gotten separated from a troupe of wild monkeys in an Ocala-area state park, some 118 miles north of St. Petersburg.

A Facebook fan page? Good Lord people, you really need to get a life! If any sane resident is looking for the monkey, its photo is below the fold:

At another blog I just heard a video of a Congressman named Dingle?, explaining why the taxes start now..but the programs won’t for up to 4 years..his explanation (to paraphrase)…The administrative blocks have to be in place before we can “control” (<—exact word used) the people.

Sorry bout reading another blog Wyatt..sniff, sniff..shuffles feet.

    Jon – 1. Well played.

    2. I am steering clear of politics because I am still angry. But I saw that, too. This story has me even more incensed, though. Guess the POTUS has a problem with Catholics. Go figure.

You do realize some of the insanity in FL is caused by people who move down here to retire from up North and don’t have anything better to do, right?

Plus, we’re an entertainment driven state. We hold hurricane parties when a storm looks like it’s going to hit us, and the liquor stores make big bucks. We have horse racing, dog racing, boat racing, car racing, and turtle racing. There’s something about the tropical sun that makes us enjoy life a little more. :-)

Phillip – It’s just that stories like these make me think some of your neighbors spend too much time in that tropical sun.

Wyatt, have you ever been to Key West? Or just watched the videos from Fantasy Fest days? Of course some of them spend too much time in the sun. Especially true of people who moved down from up North and aren’t used to such strong sun.

I still don’t think we’re as bad as California, though.

Hey, that reminds me, in the ape-ruled world of Planet of the Apes, humans had free health care. When Taylor’s buddy was lobotomized, I don’t think he had to pay a dime. Not even a co-pay.

    USAdmiral – Neck and neck.

Jon – Jessica Alba is a hot little mynx. I wonder if she qualifies for a hard target search?

Danny – Animals are very tasty. Very very tasty. Monkeys? Eh, not so much.

John D – See? Obama is well ahead of his time.
