Bowled Over
By Wyatt Earp | July 6, 2009
Today, the missus and I took Kyle and Erik bowling. They received gift cards for Christmas, and we figured today would be a great excuse to do something fun. The in-laws came over to watch Kevin and Julia, and we were on our way.
The lanes are close by, and when we arrived we noticed the place was mobbed. Apparently, the leagues weren’t finished yet. There was nothing but fossils senior citizens in every lane, and the scent of Ben Gay fluttered through the air. Sadly, they were 1,000 times better than I am.
We laced up our very fashionable bowling shoes and found a bowling ball that fit our needs. I couldn’t find a pink ball that was 12 pounds, so I had to settle for green – much to the missus’ delight. We paid for three rounds, and the games were set to begin.
Erik started with his very unorthodox bowling style. he walked to the foul line and hurled the ball in the air. It bounced once, then took the very slow journey toward the pins. As you can see below, his turns take a lot of time:
Amazingly enough, he bowled fairly well, scoring in the 60-70 range. Not bad for a 5-year old.
Kyle was up next, and while his style was a little more common, he had a lot more velocity in his throws. Unfortunately, he also had habit of getting in front of the camera when Mom was taping him:
His first roll of the day? A strike. He ended up winning the first round.
The missus didn’t want me blogging about her day. She didn’t do poorly, but as we both said, it would have been better if we put up the gutter bumpers for the four of us.
As for me, I realized something today: Wii Bowling is much easier than regular bowling. I rolled a 102, a 116, and finished with a 95. Before kids, the missus and I bowled a lot, and we were pretty decent. Today, I left more pins standing than Stevie Wonder. To wit:
Yeah, that’s me throwing one of my gutter balls. Ugh.
It was still a fun day, and we saved enough on the cards to go back. You can bet your arse that I’ll practice a little beforehand this time.

There’s something about a man wearing two toned shoes that drives me crazy! BTW, nice legs.

Usually it takes a picture of a pretty girl to get Wyatt’s mind in the gutter!

Proof – I know! What the Hell?
Randal – Do we have to invite Al?

yes, you have to invite me, unless you’re afraid you’ll lose to a girl!

I’ve taken the kids bowling before. That “thunk” when they throw the ball kills me every time.

Oh yeah, Wyatt, Wii bowling is much easier than the real deal. I’m lucky if I can get better than 100 in a round of real bowling.
Thanks for the post; makes me want to go to the bowling alley again as soon as possible.

I like the arm flapping technique little un has. Perhaps the draft helps the balls momentum.
You guys are cute!
