Carnys Built This Country

Well, the carny part of it, anyway.
Last night, my sister and I took Kyle and Erik to the carnival at Kyle’s school. The boys had been talking about it for weeks, and the excitement came to a head this week. Since I am working the night shift, this week, we had to go either Thursday or Friday - my days off. Sadly, the weather was terrible all day yesterday, but the rain stopped long enough for us to get out there for about two hours.
My sister Allison came with me because the missus was with Kevin and Julia. There was no reason to bring them out for this, since they are too small for the rides, and not yet ready for the nirvana that is cotton candy. I’m glad Al tagged along, because I made her go on the more nauseating, vertigo-inducing rides.
One of the first attractions the boys tackled was the bungee jump. Basically, they were hooked up to the bungee cords and bounced off an air bag on the ground. Hilarity ensues . . .
Erik didn’t try anything really adventurous, since it was his first time, but he did let the carny give him some help getting airborne. Erik is pretty much our family’s version of Unbreakable, and he loved every second of this.
We jumped from ride to ride, and stopped only for a potty break - for the kids, not me - and snacks. Erik wanted popcorn and Kyle dined on cotton candy. The boys liked the fun house, and really enjoyed the slide at the end - as Erik did in the top photo.
The highlight of the night was when Kyle, Erik, and Allison went on the Rock and Roll. It looks like the spinner from The game of Life, and after it spins really fast, it goes up and down on an angle. When the ride was finished, Allison walked over to me and said, “I hate you.” Apparently she didn’t like the experience. She continued, “Kyle and I were getting nauseous, and Erik was calling us crybabies.”
Nice. At five years old, Erik is one tough cookie.

Never did get into the “spin you till you puke” rides. My kids, on the other hand, have loved those kind of thing since they were little. (I think aliens abducted my real kids and replaced them with these strange creatures.)
Sounds like you all still had a fun time.

E. L. - Yeah, it was a blast. We still have some cotton candy left. Mmm . . .
