Burris Promised Campaign Funds For Blago

By Wyatt Earp | May 27, 2009

Jailbirds of a feather.

Jailbirds of a feather.

Well, isn’t that interesting? Marathon Pundit has the scoop HERE.

Two words for you, Senator Burris: Resign now.

Five words for you, Governor Patrick Quinn: We want a special election.

Well..well…well. It looks like there’s a smoking gun tape that probably has Sen. Roland Burris (D-Blagojevich) very nervous, as the Chicago Sun-Times exclusively reports this afternoon.

In a November conversation caught on an FBI wiretap, Roland Burris promised Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s brother that he’d write the governor a campaign check by mid-December, Burris’ lawyer said today.

Okay, why is the FBI not breaking down Burris’ door and dragging him out of his Senate office?

But lawyer Timothy Wright told the Chicago Sun-Times today that his client never sent the check because he believed it wasn’t a good idea given Burris’ interest in the U.S. Senate seat appointment. Wright said Burris’ decision not to send the check had nothing to do with Blagojevich’s Dec. 9 arrest.

I don’t want to call Wright or Burris a liar . . . but I don’t know how to finish this sentence. Oh, and if you’re not outraged enough, check out this little info nugget:

Burris did not mention a promise of a check in a Feb. 4 sworn affidavit that Burris submitted to an Illinois House panel investigating Rod Blagojevich’s impeachment. That affidavit sought to supplement Burris’ testimony before a House panel, where Burris only mentioned having contact with Lon Monk with regard to the appointment.

I hate to say that Harry Reid was right, but it seems that not seating Burris would have been the better move. It’s a shame that Reid has no spine, and caved in to the pressure of the race-baiters.

So, the question remains: When will we see prominent Democrats calling for Burris’ resignation? Or is a filibuster-proof Senate more important than doing the right thing?

“Or is a filibuster-proof Senate more important than doing the right thing?”

    Surely you jest.

Stressdoc - Oh, that last one was purely rhetorical. Heh.

    And stop calling him surely:)

Is a bear Catholic? Does the Pope defecate in the woods? I’m sure they are cooking up some way to blame Sarah Palin over this even as we speak.

All right, these guys are obviously both political scum who should be in jail, but I do have one question.

Can Burris be arrested for saying that he’d write a check or does he have to actually write a check? Where’s the legal line?

And why does Burris look yellow in that pic?

Jon - I blame Obama. Completely. (Just kidding.) I don’t think either of these rocket scientists can blame anyone but themselves.

Randal - No. I was exaggerating about jail. He can, however, forfeit his Senate seat over this - if someone causes a stink about it.

As far as the yellow, maybe he’s part Chinese. Kidding, kidding, don’t send Asian hate mail!

Reid and the Dem leadership will never hold Burris accountable for his actions or statements.

The Blago and Burris bullshit dance is a prime example.

Federal Agents arrest Blago. Dems scream “we must stop him from appointing a senator.” “We demand a Special Election.” Two days later, the Dems are saying “Blago can’t make this appointment. He should resign and let Quinn make the appointment.” By the time we got a week away from the initial arrest, the Dems didn’t even care anymore.

    Blago appoints Burris.

Harry Reid and the Dem leadership scream they won’t seat Burris. A few days later, they agree to talk with him. Within a week, they seat Burris.

Over the next 2 weeks, Burris is caught in at least 4 big lies.

    And now, the fun continues.

It is COMPLETELY about the status quo.

The saving grace, Burris doesn’t stand a chance of getting elected in 2010. Hopefully, the Dems are dumb enough to run him.

If the nuns and priests hadn’t beat the lying and thieving out of me in grade school and high school, I could have been a politician.

And, I would have helped the Church.

Petey - I don’t know about him not getting re-elected. It is Illinois, after all.

Solitary Knight - Nuns. Still scared of them
