Hitler’s Paintings To Be Auctioned Off

Cool! They’d look great next to my John Wayne Gacy clown portraits!

BERLIN – Two signed watercolours by Adolf Hitler are set to be sold later this month at auction in Nuremberg in southern Germany, scene of the Nazi war crimes trials, a local paper reported Thursday.

The two paintings — entitled “Farmstead” and “Farm Buildings On The River” date from 1914 and would go under the hammer on April 25, the daily Nurnberger Abendzeitung said.

The bidding was due to start at 3,500 euros (4,600 dollars), according to a catalogue published by the Weidler auction house, which is putting the works up for sale.

Three years ago, the same auction house sold a Hitler painting for 11,000 euros but some works have fetched much higher sums. In 2006, 21 works sold in Britain for 118,000 pounds (126,000 euros, 171,000 dollars). (H/T - )

$171,000? That must be solely for the historical aspect of the paintings, because in my opinion, these are okay, but not great. I mean, good for a homicidal maniac, anyway.

I think someone should buy them and then burn them.

Sell them and give the earnings to Holocaust survivors!

I think they are primitive in their style and while they are interesting because of the link to Hitler, they sure wouldn’t fetch anything near 4,000 Euros here in Kansas. It always makes me wonder how Gacy and Hitler could have a mind that can paint and kill with equal ease. Oh well, MUD

Hitler tried twice to get into a well-known art school in Vienna, but was kept out because they saw his work and concluded he sucked. He could draw landscapes fine, but not people.

People say Hitler was a lousy painter. This is not true. He was a good painter.

He could paint an entire apartment, two coats, in one day.

    DL474 - On pay-per-view.

Mare - I can’t see that there’s a market for this. How do you start that conversation? “And here are my Hitlers . . ”

    Rodney - Ha!

    Deanna - Terrific idea.

MUD - I can’t paint worth a lick, so guess society is safe from me.

Morgan - Maybe that’s what set him off?

    Echosix - Bawahahahahaha!

I’m holding off bidding until they release the Idi Amin Dada African Strongman Collection®.

His work was a bit, shall we say “eclectic”, but the way he could make the blood spray onto a canvas, creating a subtle, nuanced joie de vive styling, with but a few strokes of his machete, was unrivaled in his time.

It’ll also score me some really bitchin’ points with the arts community, now that we’ve finally gotten over our collective racism and elected our first bonafide North African-Arab to the White House.
