Four Police Officers Shot, 3 Killed In Oakland

By Wyatt Earp | March 22, 2009

shooting-scene5Jesus.

The fourth officer is still listed in critical condition at an area hospital. Hopefully, that officer will pull through.

The only good part about this story is that the suspect was shot and killed by police. May he rot in Hell.

Three Oakland, California, police officers who were wounded in two shootings Saturday afternoon have died, authorities said.

The suspected gunman also was killed, police said. A fourth police officer remained in critical condition, police said.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said flags at the Capitol will fly at half-staff to honor the fallen officers.

“This is a tragic day for law enforcement officers everywhere,” he said in a statement. “All four officers dedicated their lives to public safety and selflessly worked to protect the people of Oakland.”

Police received a call around 1:15 p.m. reporting two officers down on MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan said.

A manhunt was under way for the shooter when an anonymous caller directed authorities to a building on an adjacent street where the gunman was believed to be barricaded, Jordan said.

The gunman opened fire, wounding two more officers before police returned fire, killing the suspect, Jordan said.

The four officers were taken to Highland Hospital, Officer Jeff Thomason said. (H/T - CNN)

Apparently, it is not only open season on police officers in Philadelphia, but across the country as well. People are shooting cops like it’s free. Until we are able to clamp down - truly clamp down - on these bastards, I fear that these attacks will continue.

Please pray for the officers and their families.

UPDATE: CNN is reporting that the fourth officer has died. Damn.

The story I referred to in the previous thread.

    Prayers said.

Sadly, I think I just saw on KYW’s site that the fourth officer has passed.

    Sickening.

Sorry…KYW had an incorrect headline/story; they have changed it.

They shot and killed the perp, what more could they do? I hate when the bad guys have guns and do stupid things. I refuse to give up my guns so only the bad guys will be armed. It is a sad day when the Police die in doing their duty for us. MUD

I saw the headline and my heart jumped to my throat. The husband’s youngest cousin is an Alameda police officer. My heart goes out to the officers’ families. Such a senseless act.

More senseless is when looking for more info, I came across a site glorifying the killer and claiming his “protest” against “the man” was a great one.

Thoughts and Prayers sent… Oakland has been going down for years, and this “may” be the tipping point… I hate to say it, but I’m betting there will be lawsuits with the ACLU involved over the killing of the perp. If you look at his record, his ass SHOULD have been in Folsom!

Alan B - I wrote the post late last night, but had it publish this morning.

RT - The fourth officer did indeed die this afternoon. Terrible.

Captain - An awful day for the city of Oakland.

MUD - Glad the doer is dead. Wish he was killed sooner, though.

Snigs - I saw a report that stated bystanders were taunting the police afterward. Actions like that deserve an ass-kicking.

Old NFO - He said he wasn’t going back to prison. I guess he meant it. The doer’s cousin said he “wasn’t a monster.” Um yeah, he was.

    LDIV - Amen.

It’s a bleeping outrage is what it is.
Guess he figured Obama would save him, huh?
Prayers duly offered for the officers and their families. Only problem with that, Wyatt, is that I’m doing this too damned often of late.
    It just ain’t right.

Admiral - No, no there are not.
