Kyle Earp: Only Jesus Saves More

By Wyatt Earp | August 6, 2009

Would you mess with this kid?

Luckily for them, the yellow team didn’t mess with him or Kyle on Tuesday night, because the boys – as well as the rest of the team – was en fuego. With the season winding down, they needed some wins – the team finished with another tie on Sunday night, 5-5 .

The game started off simply enough. Kyle was in goal, and was stopping a lot of shots, from both near and far. He proudly told me after the game that he got his new white pads, “all cruddy.” Erik, on the other hand, played center again and continued winning a lot of his faceoffs. Here, he wins one forward after the ball is dropped.

For the most part, Erik played very well. He hustled a lot and was good with his positioning. The missus did say, however, that he was walking a lot during the end of the game, but that may because he was either tired, or a frustrated 5-year old playing with kids three years older than him.

Kyle also maintained his normal steady play in net, and gave up only one goal before earning a 3-1 win. He did tell me that one of their team’s goals was from about 80 feet away. Their teammate shot a ball from behind Kyle’s net, and it traveled the length of the rink, past the opposing goalie – who was busy watching the other hockey game going on – for the score. Kyle thought it was the funniest thing ever, but you have to feel for the other kid.

All I ever tell the boys before any sporting event is that they need to do things: Play hard and have fun. So far, they are doing both. Their next game is tonight – after they get home from a Phillies day game with my sister.

    1. They are awesome kids!
    2. The other goalie might have been taking tips from the Flyers’ goalies. (Poor fella.)
    3. The boys and your sister saw a great game, today! How great for them.

RT – Thanks. They loved their first Phillies game. I only wish I would have been able to take them. Lousy city job!

    Clady – Thank you.

    Well done the boys!

I am sure you don’t need to tell them because they have been taught right but I would suggest for some teams you need to ammend your advice before matches:

“Play hard and have fun!” to “Play hard, play fair and have fun!”

(that you don’t have to consider it is a tribute to the example set by you and Mrs Earp )

As far as the other goalie is concerned, he has probably learned an important lesson. Kyle too (although for him it was painless).
