LAPD Tap Dances On The Land Mine

By Wyatt Earp | June 19, 2010

It looks like the Los Angeles Police Department is hopping aboard the “We Heart Illegals” bandwagon. They just announced that they will boycott a police conference being held in – wait for it – Arizona. Maybe it’s just me, but shouldn’t Los Angeles get its own house in order first? I’ll bet they’ll think a little more clearly after the Lakers riots are quelled.

Los Angeles Police Department officials and rank-and-file officers are at odds after the LAPD hierarchy decided that four officers who were scheduled to attend a conference and training session in Tucson next month will not go after all.

Police Chief Charlie Beck. Beck said the decision was made as an attempt “to respect the [Los Angeles City] council’s boycott of Arizona.”

Please read the rest here. It is definitely worth your time.

    CA Penal Code 834b
    834b.

    (a) Every law enforcement agency in California shall fully cooperate with the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service regarding any person who is arrested if he or she is suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws.

    (b) With respect to any such person who is arrested, and suspected of being present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws, every law enforcement agency shall do the following:

    (1) Attempt to verify the legal status of such person as a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted as a permanent resident, an alien lawfully admitted for a temporary period of time or as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of immigration laws. The verification process may include, but shall not be limited to, questioning the person regarding his or her date and place of birth, and entry into the United States, and demanding documentation to indicate his or her legal status.

    (2) Notify the person of his or her apparent status as an alien who is present in the United States in violation of federal immigration laws and inform him or her that, apart from any criminal justice proceedings, he or she must either obtain legal status or leave the United States.

    (3) Notify the Attorney General of California and the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service of the apparent illegal status and provide any additional information that may be requested by any other public entity.

    (c) Any legislative, administrative, or other action by a city, county, or other legally authorized local governmental entity with jurisdictional boundaries, or by a law enforcement agency, to prevent or limit the cooperation required by subdivision (a) is expressly
    prohibited.

Nice Law Enforcement Ethics there LAPD command.

JCM – I try not to rip other departments, but this is the stupidest thing I have ever read. Stupid and reckless.

Dixie – Maybe AZ should go through with its threat to cut off L.A.’s power?

    Wyatt,

There’s a huge disconnect between line LEOs and Command. Seattle, your town, LA…. Command has to be political in Blue Cities. The line grunts have to deal with reality on the streets.

Maybe the Command should have to spend one day or night a week on the street.

JCM – Philly is so political here it would blow your mind. I mean, you really have no idea how they manipulate us. It would make a great book.

Oh, hell yes. Then have the National Guard demo the high-tension towers, just to add insult to injury.

I’ve argued for a long time that Operation Plowshares needs to be dusted off. A few tactical nukes, a few deep holes, and *presto*, all of southern Cali is an island. Then we can give them back to Mexico.
