The Most Justified Police Shooting . . Evah!

By Wyatt Earp | April 21, 2010

Robbie from Just a Normal Chick – amongst other great folks – sent me this video. It is reason #9,097 why I love my job. Sometimes, we actually get the toads:

Dashboard video from a January traffic stop in Hamilton that ended in gunfire. A jury ruled on April 13, 2010 that Hamilton Police Officer Ross Jessop was justified in shooting Raymond Thane Davis.

Pop quiz, hotshots. Hamilton Police Officer Ross Jessop is:

A. A good shot.
B. My new hero.
C. Lucky to be alive.
D. All of the above.

Definitely “D”. And “ditto” as well!

It be…a D. It also had a shocking end:) LOL
    Good shootin’ officer Jessop!

Was Mr. Raymond “Thane” Davis trying out for an ending of an episode of Justified?

  4. Josh Says:
    April 21st, 2010 at 8:23 pm

    Good shoot.

  5. Wyatt Earp Says:

    Proof – Agreed.

Jon – Justified is my favorite show on television right now. Archer is my second favorite.

Josh – He certainly didn’t skimp on rounds, either. Good for him.

Sweet! Nice shooting Officer J. All those trips to the range paid off.

    Crime makes you stupid……..

    True then ……true now…………..

John D – And how. I wonder if he hit the pole because he was shot or because he was drunk?

LDIV – No kidding. This idiot thought he would get away with it, too. WRONG!

  9. Jon Brooks Says:
    April 21st, 2010 at 9:47 pm

Wyatt- Speaking of shootouts: Just read an article where the coroner inquest papers from the shootout at the OK Corral have just been found again, after being lost for the last 50 years.

One loser out of the gene pool (hopefully) and zero tax dollars wasted on a trial and years of appeals.

That officer showed he was smart, courageous and a dam good shot. I hope he has a long life.

  11. Ingineer66 Says:
    April 21st, 2010 at 10:28 pm

Holy Crap. Good shooting by the officer.

  12. J. Wilde Says:
    April 21st, 2010 at 11:18 pm

Is it just me, or did it seem like the only reason why the perp didn’t kill the officer was because he hadn’t made the weapon fully ready to fire at first when he pointed it at the cop’s head?

  13. piperfromtn Says:

Good decision to engage and shoot through the windows, through the back of the seat and empty the mag into him.

Poor decision by Davis to engage a sworn officer, trained to neutralize the threat.

  14. Sully Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 12:59 am

Wow… clearly D… This could have easily been a sad story for the officers family.

  15. Indiana Ed Says:

Never ceases to amaze me the thought processes (or lack thereof) these idiots seem to show. “Ok, I’m being pulled over for drunk driving and might wind up in jail for it. I know, I’ll pull a gun on a cop and shoot at him so either A) I’ll wind up in prison for alot longer (forever if he dies) or B) I’ll wind up dead. Sounds like a plan!”. Maybe I just have too much faith in my fellow man but talk about doubling down on stupid. Someone needs to buy the officer a beer.

  16. Sally Anne Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 8:23 am

Well now, watching that woke me up more than my coffee. I’m going with choice “D” here too.

  17. Dannytheman Says:

Double tap times 5 baby!! One less court appearance. Money saved by the brave, yet underwear soiled officer.

  18. Robbie Says:

I held my breath through the entire clip, I love the part were the officer states he hit the telephone pole and you see the transformer blow in the distance…..It just goes to prove when it’s not your time to go, it’s not your time. An angel was on the shoulder of that cop tonight….Be careful out there, clips like that give me a heart attack !

  19. Crankipants Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 9:26 am

    Nice shooting!

Enjoy your stay in hell, turd breath!

  20. Wyatt Earp Says:

Jon – Thanks for the tip. I posted it today.

Ralph – I do, too. No one deserves a brush with death like that.

Ingineer66 – Darned straight. He unloaded on the rat bastard, as he should have.

    J. Wilde – He was probably too drunk. Thank God for small miracles.

Piper – Agreed. It was his best shot at the time. Glad he made use of it.

Sully – I know. Could have gone very, very bad for the officer.

Indiana Ed – The man should never have to pay for beer again anywhere in the U.S.

Sally Anne – It starts out slow, but then you see the gun and all Hell breaks loose.

Danny – I would have had a heart attack afterward.

Robbie – I never had to fire my weapon, but when I was a rookie in the 24th District, we had a homicide by AK-47. We were down the street when the suspect started firing. I was never so scared in my life, but I found myself running toward the gunfire. The only thing going through my head was, “What the Hell am I doing?” That’s the job. While everyone runs away from the gunfire, we run toward it. It’s cool! :)

Crankipants – Don’t know if he died, but if he didn’t he was surely frakked up by the lead poisoning.

  21. AJ Lynch Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 12:02 pm

Google said he died of one bullet wound. That cop was a damn good shot.

  22. Jim Ramsey Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 6:55 pm

The Herd has been appropriately thinned. Good shooting.

  23. Robert B. Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 7:18 pm

The video must have gotten pulled before I could see it. But looking at the above comments, I’d say that the idiot got what he deserved. Thank God it was him and not the officer.

  24. Sally Anne Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 7:23 pm

just realized when I showed my mom this clip that it happened in her former hometown back in MT. heh.

  25. Smite A. Hippie Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 10:28 pm

    ho…ly… sh*t.

briefly stunned in shock as I watch it, but then I literally LOL’d (with a giggle/snort) when he crashed into the pole…

I was going to say “is that wrong?” but then broke out of my girly-emotion mindset, and laughed again. heh.

    Good job, Jessop!

  26. Smite A. Hippie Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 10:32 pm

oh and definitely “D” – coulda been worse too, as apparently the idiot did try to immediately fire when he put the gun outside the window, but the hammer came down on a spent round.

  27. Wyatt Earp Says:
    April 22nd, 2010 at 11:15 pm

AJ – Good. May he rot in Hell.

Jim – And the median IQ of the nation just got larger.

Robert B – Click the video above. It still works as of 11pm (EDT).

Sally Anne – What are the odds?

Smite – Not at all. I laughed when he crashed into the pole, too. But I am 100% evil, so . . .

  28. Robert Says:
    April 23rd, 2010 at 1:33 am

All of the above, but one observation:
The officer was in a bad position from the start, it appears to me the officer should have more to the back side of the door…Glad the officer survived.

  29. Penny Says:
    April 23rd, 2010 at 10:57 am

    There was a trial???????

  30. Robert B. Says:
    April 23rd, 2010 at 9:29 pm

Got it this time. Must have been my ISP last night.

WOH! That was scary. Again, thank God it was the criminal and not the officer who bought the farm.

  31. Ingineer66 Says:
    April 23rd, 2010 at 10:22 pm

Out here the officers are trained to go to the passenger door when a stop is on a highway. Better angle for shooting and less chance of being whacked by a passing car.
