Please Pray For A Friend

By Wyatt Earp | November 7, 2009

Right Wing ProfMy friend and fellow Pennsylvania blogger Right Wing Prof has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

It has been a tough month for the Prof, who slipped and fell a few weeks ago, fracturing his spine. He was released from the hospital a few days later, but the docs found the cancer shortly thereafter. This despicable disease attacked the area, and caused the Prof to lose the use of his legs. He is now in a wheelchair, hopped up on goofballs (aka pain meds), and is unsure if he will return home or be admitted into a care facility.

His most recent update is here.

The Prof is one of a handful of bloggers I have personally met. I am always hesitant to attend a blogger meet, because I am afraid I will not be nearly as interesting in person as I sometimes am here. A few years ago, I met Prof, Sebastian, and Bitter for lunch at Geno’s Steaks. What a terrific group of people. The Prof was exactly like I expected: smart, funny, and full of life. We have e-mailed back and forth dozens of times since then about everything from the Penguins to Penn State football, and when I received the news about the cancer, I was devastated.

To be honest, I feel like a drama queen for fretting about my skin cancer when the Prof is battling something much more serious.

The Prof has three great things going for him. First, he is a man of faith and relies on his church for strength and support. Second, he has many friends who are praying for him and offering to help in any possible. Third, he is a tough, tough man. He is a fighter, and he is going to beat this, get back on his feet, and come to Philly for some lunch at Geno’s Steaks. I’m buying!

So please, stop by his blog and send him a message of support. I would truly appreciate it.

I’ve been praying for him and his family since I found out about it. I’ve pretty much been missing in action since the semester started so I hadn’t been to his site for a while. To say that I was stunned would be an understatement. Last night, after reading his latest post I just locked myself in the bathroom and cried. He strikes me as a very decent, and good man, and I hate that this is happening to him.

Been praying for him, too. God can heal. My mom is a 22-year survivor of lung cancer.

I’ll continue praying for him. He has been dealt a mighty crappy hand right now, and he really needs for all of us to remember him in our prayers.

Gee, I keep seeing comments over there referring to you, and I guess I’ve been so foggy on morphine it didn’t really hit that maybe there was a link over here. But thanks for all the really nice things you said. I have good moments and bad moments, and the Deacon and some people from the parish are diving up from State College after Liturgy to bring me Holy Communion and spend the afternoon. These people are amazing, and I’m so fortunate to have their prayers and support. They’re ready to discharge me from the hospital as soon as I find a bed in a good facility.

Thanks for the support, Wyatt. And hey, if you find yourself up in this part of the state, drop by.

Thank you so very much everyone!

Prof – See what I mean when I say I have the best readers around? You keep fighting. I need you healthy when I come to Penn State wearing my Michigan Wolverines hockey jersey!!! :)
