Philadelphia: Not A Good Place For Cats
By Wyatt Earp | September 29, 2009
Wow, last week some tool duct-taped a cat, and now they are throwing them off a bus. Philadelphia cats need their own version of Rosa Parks.
A school bus driver threw three kittens to the curb in Port Richmond Monday morning, say witnesses and police. Police arrested the driver today on animal cruelty charges.
The driver parked the Atlantic Express Company school bus at 2900 Janney St. at 8:45 a.m. Monday and threw three kittens from the back door of the bus, says Port Richmond resident Terri Gerretz, one of the witnesses to the alleged incident.
Gerretz and other witnesses took down the school bus’s license plate number and called 911. Gerretz wrapped the kittens– which were skinny and flea-infested– in a blanket while she waited for Animal Control to arrive.
Police said they located the driver from the license plate numbers the neighbors provided and arrested Bill Mitchell on three counts of animal cruelty. According to police, Mitchell said that he found the kittens on his school bus and didn’t want them on there—so he tossed them. (H/T – NBC10)
Oh, and the classy NBC10 sub-headline? “Driver tells police he didn’t want strange pussies on his bus.”
Stay classy, guys!

And we wonder why people have no regard for life? They have no regard for anything. It is like they were raised by wolves or something.

What should the bus driver have done?

My parents, who live in Erie remember, have become a cat shelter. Really! They have a “cat house” and everything; they feed and take these cats to the vet, buy flea treatments for them all….
They fought the city (and their neighbors) to be able to keep the cats. Why do they do this? Because they don’t want to see stray cats (and some dumped domestic ones) starve or be mistreated.
At last count, there were 36 in the cat house, and three in the house with my parents. They recently found a kitten that had been dumped!
And this doesn’t include all the neighborhood strays that they feed every day.
My point is, my parents are spending their retirement money to take care of cats because they care…and then some a$$hole tosses a cat off a damn bus.

Public Service Announcement: Remember always
spay and neuter the people who mistreat animals.
We don’t want alot of them roaming the streets.

We found a cat in our backyard a few years ago. He was the George Clooney of cats, this little guy had charisma. We figured that he was someone’s pet, until they moved and decided not to take him along, or he was the victim of the classic “drive and dump.”
Fortunately, a friend of ours adopted him. Frank has a good home, and our friend no longer has a mouse problem.
I’d like to toss this idiot off a bus, preferably when it’s moving at a high speed.

They ought to douse the bus driver in catnip and place him in an enclosure with cats at the local humane society. Then stand back and watch the fun.

DL – Yeah, it was only a matter of time. These people are not capable of rational thought.
RT – Wolves would suggest some sort of parental supervision.
BillN – He could have pulled over at took them off the bus instead of throwing them off.
GroovyVic – Philly has “cat houses,” but probably not the ones you mean.
Jon – I am all for spaying humans.
Mrs. Crankipants – In the middle of I-95.
TBB – It’s rather uncool, to say the least.
MeToo – It’s claw-riffic!
