Surf’s Up, Madame Speaker!

By Wyatt Earp | May 8, 2009

nancy-pelosiFor the past few weeks, we have been subjected to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s constant denials that she knew about the CIA’s “enhanced interrogation techniques.” Specifically, she repeatedly claimed that she did not know that the practice of waterboarding was being used against prisoners.

Guess what? Madame Speaker was not exactly truthful.

Yeah, I know: You’re shocked, right? The only thing shocking about this story is that the left-leaning Washington Post broke it.

Intelligence officials released documents this evening saying that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was briefed in September 2002 about the use of harsh interrogation tactics against al-Qaeda prisoners, seemingly contradicting her repeated statements over the past 18 months that she was never told that these techniques were actually being used.

So what, did she think that no one would have a record of that 2002 briefing? Dumbass.

In a 10-page memo outlining an almost seven-year history of classified briefings, intelligence officials said that Pelosi and then-Rep. Porter Goss (R-Fla.) were the first two members of Congress ever briefed on the interrogation tactics. Then the ranking member and chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, respectively, Pelosi and Goss were briefed Sept. 4, 2002, one week before the first anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks

So, she was not only briefed about the techniques, but she was one of the first two politicians ever to be briefed about them!

The memo, issued by the Director of National Intelligence and the Central Intelligence Agency to Capitol Hill, notes the Pelosi-Goss briefing covered “EITs including the use of EITs on Abu Zubaydah.” EIT is an acronym for enhanced interrogation technique. Zubaydah was one of the earliest valuable al-Qaeda members captured and the first to have the controversial tactic known as waterboarding used against him.

And for seven years, she pretended that she knew nothing about the EIT’s. That takes some pretty big won tons.

In a carefully worded statement, Pelosi’s office said today that she had never been briefed about the use of waterboarding, only that it had been approved by Bush administration lawyers as a legal technique to use in interrogations. (H/T - The Washington Post)

Okay, show of hands: Who believes her?

There’s a new grassroots effort afoot: Buy A Dem A Dictionary. So send San Fran Nan a dictionary so she can look up those words she doesn’t understand.

Y’all know that if there was anything other than a “D” behind her name, there’d be caterwauling from all corners for her to resign.

Jon - When she was younger, she wasn’t half bad. Now she looks like Joan Rivers . . . without the talent.

Kate - And tear your hand to shreds.

    JumpOut - Thank you, Colonel.

    Kaveman - Which one? Heh.

Bob - Pretty simple to me.

Stoutcat - That’s pretty much every word, isn’t it?

s.p.e.c.t.r.e. - I’d be happy with seeing her unemployed.

Jon - Like a Mrs. Potato head.

Old NFO - And she thinks her denials will fly. Idiot.

Glenn - I’m all for it!

Kate - Resign at the least.
