Half A Million Reasons To Read

By Wyatt Earp | April 13, 2009

wyatt-earpSo, I was working on the blog the other day and I noticed something peculiar. My site meter was up to 496,000 hits.

My first thought was, “Did I leave the oven on?” But my second thought was, “Holy crap, I am fast approaching half a million hits!”

It my hit trends continue, I should receive hit #500,000 either tomorrow night or early Wednesday morning. (Wednesday would be better because that’s a special date here.) As always, I will put up a little incentive for the lucky reader. The 500,000th visitor to this blog will receive the Wyatt Earp 2-Disc Special Edition DVD starring Kevin Costner and Dennis Quaid. Since I gave away Tombstone for my 100,000th hit, I wanted to change it up for this milestone.

Hopefully, I’ll have people looking out for the lucky number, and a screen shot would help if anyone sees it. When the visit comes, I’ll probably be in work, and the city doesn’t trust us with internet access. Thus, I’ll probably miss it.

If the 500,000th visitor is not identified (or does not come forward) I’ll give the prize to the next identifiable reader in line - by IP address and location. So, if you’re close, make a note of what time you came here and where you came from. Get a screen shot if you can, too.

So again, thanks for reading, and good luck.

UPDATE Tuesday, 1:30PM (EST): SYLG is only 300 hits away from #500,000. The lucky visit will come today, probably in a few hours. Again, I’ll be at work and I will probably miss the milestone, so it’s a good idea to get a screen shot or other proof you won the contest. I don’t get out of work until 11pm, and I’ll post about the winner late tonight.

Awesome Wyatt. Congrats in advance. Hope it’s me. I don’t have that flick yet, and I have the perfect spot picked out for it:

Right there on the second row from the bottom, sixth shelf from the left between Tombstone and High Plains Drifter.

“Wednesday would be better because that’s a special date here”.

ummmm, let’s see, is it because:

    1. Jackie Robinson becomes the first African American player in Major League Baseball.

    or

    2. The RMS Titanic, sinks in the North Atlantic.

    or maybe

    3. Abraham Lincoln dies after being shot the previous evening by John Wilkes Booth.

    or my personal favorite

    4. Rand McNally publishes its first road atlas.

Admiral - It’s all done with smoke and mirrors, trust me.

    Woody - Suh-weet!

    Kim - All you want.

Randal - OR it’s because I’m a senile dumbass and got my dates mixed up . . . Never mind that special date. That’s next Wednesday.

Well Wyatt, congrats. But “Tombstone” was better, and because I’m your huckleberry, I already have it. I would take a Buntline Special though, if you have a spare.

    Admiral - Send me your address . . .

AJ - I haven’t done it yet, but at 1:30pm (EDT), I am 311 hits away.

cbullitt - I like Tombstone a little more, too, but Wyatt Earp is a fine flick.

I love “Wyatt Earp.” I found your blog because I subscribe to Kevin Costner google alerts. I found “Tombstone” dull compared to “Wyatt Earp.” I watched them double-feature style.

    Thanks,

    Suzanne

How does one know if/when one is the 500,000th visitor? Do you have to post a comment?

I came up as visitor 500,000 as well. Must have been some kinda weird glitch. I even took a screen shot and emailed it to Wyatt. Didn’t know that George had also come up as #500k.

The fix is in….you owe all of us the DVD! Boo-ya. On 2nd thought, it is the Kevin Costner version; you can burn my copy along with Waterworld.
