It’s “Ice” To Be Back

By Wyatt Earp | March 30, 2009

emma-laaksonenWell, after missing two weeks’ worth of games, I will finally be able to play some ice hockey tonight. Our last four contests were scheduled much earlier than usual, and since I was working night shift, I couldn’t make it. Believe me, the team was better off for it.

Tonight, however, I can get back to my happy place.

We won last night, beating the division-leading Nighthawks by a score of 2-1 . . . with only 8 skaters. I swear to God, we play better when we’re exhausted. It was a terrific victory for the boys, and helped us in the standings. We’re now 13-8-5 with two games left in the regular season.

Hopefully, I haven’t lost my rink legs, because I am really excited to be back playing the sport that I love. And to mark the occasion, I figured I would post a pic of Vincent Antonelli’s favorite hockey babe, Finland’s own Emma Laaksonen (left). It should give him the impetus to put a few goals in tonight. We’ll see.

Randal – Don’t be surprised if Vinnie slashes you during a face off now.

Vincent – Hey, I like her.

Doghouse – You should see his crown. A bit gaudy.

TGYDBHTM – Thanks. If I finish the game with a decent +/-, I’ll be happy.

I hope you don’t jinx hockey games like you do 24 episodes.

Playing while exhausted probably gets you to be pin-point accurate with your passes. After all, no one wants to skate more than they have to to retrieve a puck that gets by them. For the same reason, you’re more willing to take a body on defense. A good check is better than skating after some SOB who gets by you.

Good luck in your other games.
