The Biggest Fluff Piece . . . Ever!

Let me guess: Number one has got to be, “Be as manly as possible.”
First lady Michelle Obama has a fashion following, with blogs tracking her daily garment choices.
And most of those choices are on par with her inaugural gown, otherwise known as “the curtains.”
She’s on the March cover of Vogue in a sleeveless silk sheath. Then there was the purple sleeveless Narciso Rodriguez she wore to the president’s joint session of Congress on Tuesday. And she’s on the cover of the latest People magazine in a lacy pink number, also without sleeves.
Those toned arms are becoming a trademark. And a source of inspiration for some women.
Yeah, women like Melissa Etheridge, K.D. Lang, Ellen Degeneres . . .
Rylan Duggan, a personal trainer who runs Go Sleeveless, a blog that instructs women how to tone up flabby arms and “eliminate bat wings,” said that in addition to asking how to get “Madonna arms” or “Kelly Ripa arms,” clients are now asking about getting “Obama arms.”
“The Obama effect has been that women of all ages have been inspired to take responsibility for their health and their body,” said Duggan. “As the first lady of the United States, at 44 years old, and with two young children, Mrs. Obama has shown the world that you are never too busy to take care of yourself and look good doing it too,” he said. Oh swell. Not only do we have a Messiah-in-Chief, but we also have a Savior First Lady. All hail the Obamas, may they lay their grace upon us!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Michelle Obama is not an attractive woman.

You think this article is ridiculous, but I work in Libville. The women do pay attention to what she wears, and Mrs. Obama does no wrong in their eyes. It is so shallow and dumb. (These are ardent feminists to whom a subject of this sort should not matter…right?)
1. Why is she wearing sleeveless outfits in the dead of winter? Not to bright in my humble opinion.
2. Her clothing isn’t all that pretty. It is very plain and average…just like her. There’s is nothing wrong with that, either. However, I’m just tired of people playing the Mister and missus up like they are icons of style. THEY HAVE PEOPLE DRESSING THEM!
3. You realize we are also going to have to endure “in-depth” reporting about the Obama’s choice of dog, don’t you?

Puke!!
Helps too if you are blessed to be fit and healthy (and, no, that is NOT all about lifestyle choices – good genes are essential)
Also helps if you have access to cash (not suggesting it is illegal – just available) and you don’t have to take just any job that grinding poverty forces on you.
Having the support of a husband goes a long way compared with those who are abused physically and especially emotionally.
And you are not forced to live in an area of poverty, despair and oppression with no hope of getting out.

I’m 57 and I have very nice arms. A big part of it is genetic – my mother is 87 and her arms are good too. Workouts of the triceps help a lot and they aren’t all that hard to do.
But the biggest reason why the media are going crazy over Michelle O’s arms is that she is Michelle Obama, not Sarah Palin. Sarah could have arms of steel and she’d be get no respect. Anyway, Sarah would have enough sense to wear sleeves in February.
Just a thought – Michelle O wears sleeveless dresses because her arms are good and she wants to draw attention away from her legs. She does have bowlegs.
And a biggish butt (not that there’s anything wrong with that if you are African American – if you are white, the fashionistas will kill you).

Do what Michelle does, hire a personal trainer. One who most likely travels to her home and works around her schedule.
“Mrs. Obama has shown the world that you are never too busy to take care of yourself and look good doing it too.”
She’s not busy because she no longer has to do the things that most average American women have to do- grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning the house, laundry, etc.

I saw this at CNN.com and almost wretched. This is news? Maybe at Vogue but not CNN. Then again CNN is known to be in the liberal camp so no surprises there. I cant seem to recall lots of Fluff pieces about Laura Bush at CNN. Hmmm…
