Happy Birthday, Erik!
By Wyatt Earp | February 9, 2009
My son Erik turns 5 today, and he will probably celebrate the occasion by jumping off the roof or trying to hurdle my SUV.
You see, Erik is (and always has been) “unbreakable.” He is the family daredevil, and is always doing crazy, dangerous stunts for his own amusement. When he was three, he was jumping from the top step in our middle flight - five steps - to the floor. If I wanted to catch him in midair, he wasn’t interested.
During our last snowstorm, he thought it would be a great idea to run up the slide - which was covered in ice. He took a running start, hopped onto the slide, and immediately slipped and did a perfect face plant. Shaking it off, he laughed at my horror and tried it again.
Eventually, we know he’ll get hurt doing one of these insane things, but if I know Erik, he’ll think casts are “cool” Here’s hoping it never comes to that.
Happy birthday, Erik! We love you very much.
(His is birthday #2 in our “Three birthdays in six days marathon.”)
UPDATE: Erik gets his choice of birthday dinner tonight. He has not made a final decision, but the front-runner is pancakes.

Diller - Apparently, he is none too pleased that he has to wait until Dad gets home from work to open his presents. Heh.

Happy Birthday Erik.
Here’s an idea for when you get a little older, kiddo… Wings for your bike
(my son tried that when he was 10, he said don’t worry mom, I’m not running away, I just want to fly around town)
