Report: Obama Will Close Gitmo In First Week

Fan-freakin’-tastic! Maybe he’ll let the terrorists stay with him in the White House, because none of their home countries want them.
WASHINGTON – President-elect Barack Obama is preparing to issue an executive order his first week in office—and perhaps his first day—to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, according to two presidential transition team advisers.
It’s unlikely the detention facility at the Navy base in Cuba will be closed anytime soon. In an interview last weekend, Obama said it would be “a challenge” to close it even within the first 100 days of his administration.
But the order, which one adviser said could be issued as early as Jan. 20, would start the process of deciding what to do with the estimated 250 al-Qaida and Taliban suspects and potential witnesses who are being held there. Most have not been charged with a crime.
The Guantanamo directive would be one of a series of executive orders Obama is planning to issue shortly after he takes office next Tuesday, according to the two advisers. Also expected is an executive order about certain interrogation methods, but details were not immediately available Monday. (H/T – Breitbart)

LWL does not BEGIN to portray this man… He will have to BUILD another prison, as there are none within the US that can actually house them correctly…

Releasing those people to their home countries is a death sentence in many cases. Not that I’d know about this stuff *cough cough*, but the detainees get pretty terrified if they are told that they will be turned over to the authorities in their own country. Naturally there’s a risk of the jackasses escaping/being released and coming back to cause damage to us, but it’s more likely they will suffer a lot worse punishments back home in Whoknowswheristan than they are “suffering” in our care. Who’s going to fuss about habeas corpus when these people are a pile of headless corpses?

Rick – I cannot fathom the reasoning behind this, other than to satisfy the uber-left demographic.
Old NFO – I seriously think he is going to ship them back to their countries. Or at least try. The whole thing doesn’t make a lick of sense.

I vote for closing Gitmo and leaving the prisoners there. Let Cuba and the rest of the Arab world worry what to do with them. Unless you can arrange for a bout a half dozen off duty Philly Police officers to hunt them down. MUD

The British Govt. is proposing taking some of the detainees who do not want to go back to thier own countries.
Did they ask those who put them into power?
