President Bush Bids Farewell

President Bush gave his farewell address tonight. He talked about the many positives and negatives of his eight years in the White House, and through it all he was the same president that so many conservatives have supported - through thick and thin.
Here is a notable excerpt:
“Like all who have held this office before me, I have experienced setbacks. There are things I would do differently if given the chance. Yet I have always acted with the best interests of our country in mind. I have followed my conscience and done what I thought was right. You may not agree with some tough decisions I have made. But I hope you can agree that I was willing to make the tough decisions.”
I agree. Nine months into his presidency, he was forced to deal with the largest terror attack this country has ever seen. Almost 3,000 Americans died, the World Trade Center was destroyed, and Islamists the world over laughed and cheered.
President Bush had the last laugh, however, because unlike London, Madrid, and Mumbai there has not been a terror attack on American soil since.
His successor was not impressed. Barack Obama mocked him, insulted him, and attacked his policies. President Bush addressed Obama tonight with these words:
Obama is “a man whose story reflects the enduring promise of our land,” Bush said in excerpts of his 8:00 pm (0100 GMT Friday) address, his last public appearance before welcoming his successor to the White House on January 20.
“This is a moment of hope and pride for our whole nation. And I join all Americans in offering best wishes to President-elect Obama, his wife Michelle, and their two beautiful girls,” said the outgoing president. (H/T - Hot Air)
A real class act. I had my disagreements with some of his policies, but I will truly miss him. Thank you, President Bush. Thank you for keeping us safe. In my opinion, history will remember you fondly.

Well said Wyatt, very well said.

I thought it was the most heartfelt speech/address in a long time.
I liked his line about having the title of citizen. It was evident that his well-wishes for Obama were genuine, too.
It was, as you said, quite classy.

Love the fascism, Wyatt. Good for you.
Also, I think that first excerpt is going to be the most quoted passage. Can’t wait to hear the liberal whackos lose it over Bush finally admitting he did something wrong.

He stuck by his guns for 8 long years… What you saw tonight was the same person who took over 8 years ago. Not necessarily the best, but not the worst by a long shot. He was honest and said/did what he believed was right for the country, not what was right according to the poll of the day… You will be missed Mr. President!

Agree with you 100%. A giant of a man, in the same vein as Winston Churchill, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George Patton, and other giants of WWII. We may have to select wait a couple of decades before today’s “historians” admit it, but we had the right man in the Oval Office on 9/11. Had the election of 2000 gone the other way, we’d still be waiting for the U.N. to pass sanctions against the Taleban.

I agree and have always said the guy is a genuine CLASS ACT. This proves it. Unlike Bill Clinton he never disgraced the office. Unlike Carter I don’t expect him to go around to other countries disrespecting Obama.
I just wish he fought harder against the psycho left.

Hear! Hear! I think “W” probably carried more BS on his shoulders than the last 5 presidents combined.

Nice way to end his Presidency. I also like how he called himself becoming a Citizen of the United States. I wonder how many of the people that have badmouth him over the last eight years will jump all over it in disrespect?

Regardless of everything President Bush did in his two terms in office (and there were times when he made me wonder what the hell he was thinking), it was what he did after 9/11 that will forever merit our respect, admiration and gratitude.
Thank you, Mr. President, and all the best to you and your family.

Bush’s popularity numbers are already up!

I also thought the President was dignified and classy. Husband and I watched with the kids; I just thought it would be appropriate.
I remember being so happy eight years ago that dignity and respect had finally come back to the Oval Office, and I was not disappointed. Like others, I’ve had my moments, but I too hold President Bush in high regard for his actions after 9/11, and I know that he had our safety in mind when he made the decisions he did.
How could I call him into question? Right after 9/11 my husband was activated!

It was a graceful exit. That means a great deal to me.
Say what you will about the guy, he had respect for the office.

I’m sure I’ll hear differently from some of the people I know.

I have a great deal of admiration for President Bush. He has endured a great deal as president. However, no matter how much people have criticized him he never lowered his integrity.

Well said Mr. Earp.

Thank you for the posting, Wyatt. I have always backed President Bush, and am disgusted with how the media have essentially robbed the public of celebrating his geat success at keeping us safe all these years after 9-11. I think your tribute to him is an equally classy act, given the media atmosphere. To hell with his detractors, they contribute nothing to the country’s well-being. All they do is abuse free-speech rights. Good on you for screening out the trolls.

Wyatt;
Nice sentiment, yours as well as those of Mr. Bush.
Now Rush goes back to caling his program ‘America Held Hostage’.
But now what is Bill Maher going to talk about when his alleged show comes back on?
Texas Nick;
‘we’d still be waiting for the U.N. to pass sanctions against the Taleban.’
Maybe, or maybe we might be embroiled in an unofficial civil war with muzzie invaders/fifth columnists.
