Bring Me Your Goblins

By Wyatt Earp | November 1, 2008

The boys before the candy-palooza.

The boys before the candy-palooza.

Well, another Halloween has come and gone, and while the kids are still bouncing off the walls – figuratively, they finally fell asleep – the missus and I are wiped. Since I am as weak as a baby, I had to stay home and give out candy, while the very pregnant Mrs. Earp took the kids around the neighborhood.

Their haul was massive.

It was Erik’s first time off the block – last year, he was too tired to roam – and he apparently got a taste for it. Or sugar, whatever’s better. He led the wife and Kyle around to four neighboring blocks – our streets are rather large in this part of the city – and didn’t stop until the missus brought them home. They even stopped to empty their pumpkin containers halfway through. Why? “Because all this candy is heavy, Dad!”

Ah, my bad. After checking out their booty, I can guarantee that we will have candy up to and through the birth of our next child. Swell.

Sounds like the Earp children had fun.

What a friend of mine does (we don’t celebrate Halloween) is she allows her children to pick out half a dozen pieces of candy and the rest is replaced with “Goblin Gift.” Usually a new game for their sega or what ever game system they have.

The candy (once she takes the chocolate out for herself) is either tossed or used as bribery for the rest of the year.
