Representative Charles Rangel: Scumbag

By Wyatt Earp | September 10, 2008

I guess Rangel feels that only “the little people” need to pay taxes.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Rep. Charles Rangel, a New York Democrat, said Wednesday he will not step down as chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee in the face of a call from the Republican leader in the House for him to do so.

Would you expect anything less from this career politician with a penchant for jackassery?

Rangel has been under fire for failing to report income from a rental property he owns in the Dominican Republic.

He admitted Tuesday he had not paid tax on the income, but said it was a mistake and he will pay whatever back taxes he owes. He said the income had gone directly toward paying down the mortgage on the property and he had rarely if ever received income statements related to it.

Oh, never mind then. I’m sure the honorable and trustworthy Mr. Rangel will pay back the money. Bwahahahahahahahaha! I wonder if he would agree to a pay back promise if the offender were on the other side of the aisle? I doubt it.

“I really didn’t pay any attention to it. I wasn’t getting any money from it,” he said, calling his failure to pay taxes “an omission that’s irresponsible, and that’s it.”

“I don’t believe that making mistakes means you have to give up your career,” he said.

And yet, he (correctly, in my opinion) called for the resignation of fellow scumbag Larry Craig after his bathroom stall incident. Still, that last sentence seems a little hypocritical to me.

He also admitted that he had not been charged interest on the mortgage for the past 18 years, but said he had “no clue” that the mortgage lender had made that decision. He denied having been singled out for preferential treatment.

Bullshit. Show me a “regular person” who doesn’t pay attention to what is going on with their mortgage, and I’ll show you a bald-faced liar. If he wasn’t being charged interest, he knew it. Denying such is insulting. That being said, the biggest irony is in the next sentence:

Rangel’s Ways and Means Committee writes tax law, among other responsibilities.

Are you frakkin’ kidding me?!!! This piece of garbage is responsible for writing tax law, and he is attempting to plead ignorance on the subject? Everyone who believes Rangel’s nonsense should be considered for forced sterilization, because they are too stupid to procreate.

He has also defended himself against allegations that he improperly leased a rent-controlled apartment to use as an office, and that he misused House stationery to solicit money for a New York academic center bearing his name. (H/TCNN)

Yep, that’s Charles Rangel: A true pillar of the community.

Yep old Charlie is chairman of the ways and means committee.

I still have a soft spot for Charlie. I loved it when he called out Hugo Chavez in New York.

He’s been an effective congressman for Harlem, and thats his job. (mostly, he’s a stand up guy)

He’s also one of the few veterans in congress… also a good thing to me…

I disagree with him all the time, but I respect the man.

Lets face it, this is a minor infraction compared to some of the massive swindles that take place in the congress and senate on a daily basis.

I’m going to file this one under “bigger fish to fry.”

Old Soldier – Yeah, they don’t come much dumber than this toad.

    AJ – Perhaps? Definitely.

Sully – In my opinion, corruption is corruption, and it’s exactly what’s wrong with Washington.

BWH – I was shocked and appalled.

Rick – And his constituents in Harlem probably revere him.

You don’t represent your constituency (a large % of which is Hispanic speaking) for over 37 years and not have an interest in their language and… you don’t call yourself a tax reform champion and advocate the country’s tax code and at the same time not be aware of your tax liabilities…. Shame on you Mr. Rangel (perhaps not approirate to address you as Representative Rangel – I am sure you will agree). With some remorse a man of your stature should at the least agree that you goofed and pay up your dues rather than make language excuses which even kindergarten kids won’t buy. If your website can transalate English into Spanish fto show off your accomplishments to your constituency why can’t you afford a transalator to transalate Spanish into English (Mr. English Maverick) so you can beter understand your constituency let alone your tax liabilities! Seniority and a long congress track record should be no excuse – the IRs does not excuse the little guy.
