Michigan 38, Notre Dame 0

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Thank you. ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan took care of Mike Hart’s guarantee with ease. Hart ran for 187 yards on 35 carries and scored two touchdowns, and Ryan Mallett threw for three scores, leading the Wolverines to a 38-0 win over Notre Dame on Saturday. Michigan handed the Fighting Irish their worst loss [...]

I Think I’m Going To Be Sick

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

Appalachian State 34, Michigan 32 This was the only part of the story I could read before passing out: Appalachian St. pulled off one of the biggest upsets in college football history on Saturday, winning at No. 5 Michigan, 34-32. This hardly bodes well for my Wolverines’ chances at a National Championship.

The Biggest Game Of The Year

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

SYLG will be closed between 3:30pm (EST) and 7:30pm (EST) so the staff can watch the Michigan/Ohio State game. (And by “staff,” I mean me.) Although I an a huge Wolverines fan, I am not all that confident in their chances today. The Buckeyes are not the number one team in the country for nothing, [...]

A Dark Day For The Maize And Blue

Friday, November 17th, 2006

The Big Game tomorrow has just been put on the back burner. “SOUTHFIELD, Michigan (Ticker) – Michigan coaching legend Bo Schembechler has died after collapsing Friday morning, Detroit-area television station WXYZ reported. He was 77. Schembechler collapsed at WXYZ’s studios in Southfield as he prepared to tape the “Big Ten Ticket” show and was taken [...]

PSU DOA

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

Ouch. A swarming Michigan defense battered Yoda’s, er, Joe Paterno’s Penn State football team last night, and came away with a 17-10 victory. In the process, Penn State quarterback Anthony Morelli (pictured prone, above) was knocked out of the game after a brutal sack. (Giggle) As is the yearly custom, my brother-in-law Fish and I [...]

And The Horse Was DOA

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

“Come on, Fish, smile! You look good in maize and blue!”Yeah, I know. I keep beating a dead horse here, but I just can’t help myself. This is my brother-in-law Mike (aka “Fish”). He and his lovely bride are Penn State grads, and (naturally) rabid football fans. Last week, Fish bet me that if Penn [...]

A-Maize-ing Grace

Saturday, October 15th, 2005

I have never prayed harder for a Michigan football win as I will today. This afternoon at 3:30pm (EDT), my Wolverines will be battling the (highly dubious) 6-0 Penn State Nittany Lions. Loyal readers of SYLG know that my three favorite college football teams are Michigan, and whomever is playing Notre Dame and PSU. Today’s [...]

If It Weren’t For Bad Luck . . .

Monday, September 12th, 2005

(Jeff Gordon, preparing to give “the finger” to NASCAR.) What a de-diddly-lightful weekend for this gunslinger. Let’s chronicle the misery, shall we? On Saturday, my beloved Michigan Wolverines got whupped by a bunch of drunks (read: The Fighting Irish). I can say this, since I happen to be Irish. After replaying the game in my [...]

A Policeman’s Prayer

Saturday, September 10th, 2005

Dear Jesus/Buddha/Allah (I wanna cover all the bases), I pray to you, almighty God, please curse the Notre Dame football team with continuous losses until I leave this Earth. And, while you’re at it, I pray to you to strike the squad with painful, pus-filled boils, with a pinch of leprosy. My heart is pure, [...]

Go Blue!

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” That’s right, kiddies. Screw Christmas, it’s college football season, and the #4 ranked Michigan Wolverines started their season with a bang by spanking Northern Illinois 33-17. Okay, it’s freakin’ Northern Illinois, so I shouldn’t get too excited, but next week is the game I’ve been waiting for: [...]
