Global Warming Disaster Hits England

By Wyatt Earp | December 7, 2010

This must be the apocalypse Al Gore predicted!

While thousands braved the cold to begin their Christmas shopping, seven people in North Yorkshire are praying for better weather after being snowed into a pub for eight days and counting.

Heavy snow showers and strong winds have left the group stuck in the Lion Inn pub in Blakey Ridge, Kirkbymoorside since last Friday, with little chance of an escape. Drifts of up to 16ft blocked the inn’s doors and windows, with the surrounding roads impassable, and to make matters worse, the stranded seven’s cars are buried under nine foot of snow. (H/T – Robert B.)

Yeah, poor guys. Trapped in a bar with all the food and alcohol you can stand. Hmm, I wonder if I can tunnel in and join them?

Back during Blizzard Larry (77-78), my brother and I were snowed in across the street from a liquor store and a pizza parlor. Three feet of snow isn’t that much when you really think about it. It took a week for the Army to dig us out. Good times.

Can we order up some that for tonight so I don’t have to go to work tomorrow? Please?

Snow makes most people feel like they are kids especially people in bars. It’s like when you knew you’d have a snowday off from school.

Trapped in a bar? Brings to mind some of my more irresponsible days close to 20 years ago. I was scary.

    DL474 – And beer pong!

Robin – The blizzard of ’96 would have been great, but I had to make it into work every day. Sometimes me job really sucks.

RT – Nice try. If you were teaching in a Catholic school you would have off – like my boys do today. And screw that – I have to get to work, no matter what!

Groovy – No, Ohio State fans get nothing!

Old NFO – On my salary? Not bloody likely.

Rick – Whoo hoo! More Guinness for me!

AJ – Yeah, those were the days. Shoveling out your car at 4am in February is a nice dose of reality, though.

    DL474 – I’m in!

    Proof – Certainly not Algore.

Kim – I was, too. I can’t even smell vodka anymore without getting the spits.

Gawd. I remember beating the Blizzard of ’96 to my parent’s doorstep in college. This caused my then-GF (and now wife) to sheer off of visiting NoVA in January for a few years!

(I was damfool enough to try and schlep to the local grocery store in the middle of it. No harm done, but WHAT was I thinking?)
