The Jedi Come To Camden

By Wyatt Earp | August 1, 2010

Sorry about the lack of postage yesterday, but I spent the day with the boys. My friend Bill landed us tickets to the Camden Riversharks game, and we took Kyle and Erik. The seats were fantastic – three rows behind the Sharks dugout and the weather cooperated.

It was also Star Wars Night at Campbell’s Field, so the kids wore their Star Wars t-shirts to the game. There was a Star Wars theme to the entire night, complete with trivia, music, and clips from the film on the scoreboard, as well as a performance by the PA Jedi.

Who are the PA Jedi? They are performers who develop their own Jedi characters and put on well-choreographed lightsaber battles. In addition, they work to raise money for charity – in this case, the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Any hoo, two of the Jedi put on a really good lightsaber duel before the game. It wasn’t , but it was still damned entertaining. The boys loved it. My only complaint is that the hot redhead didn’t get to fight. But I digress.

I did snap a photo, though. The Jedi are in the center of my sucky cell phone picture. The red shirts in the foreground are the choir for the National Anthem.

Besides Star Wars night, there was also a bobblehead giveaway. The subject was former Phillie Von Hayes, who is the Riversharks manager. Kyle and Erik demanded we arrive early to land one, and since they’re the boss, we did as we were told.

After the game, we were treated to a fantastic fireworks display, and the night ended with Kids Run the Bases. That was well-received because the boys needed to run out the sugar from the water ice, sno-cones, and cotton candy.

All in all it was a great day, especially since the Sharks beat the Newark Bears by a score of 9-5.

There’s a hot redhead involved? I was getting ready to point and laugh at your hopeless geekitude until you started dropping subtle hints that Christina Hendricks was a member of this troupe….glad you and the boys had a good time.

The last time I went to a minor-league game was the last time I went to Fenway (or the original Yankee stadium for that matter)- just about 2 years ago. The home team- the Oneonta Tigers- aren’t even around anymore. Good inexpensive fun, but I bailed early so I could meet up w/some relatives at Cooperstown who staked out a spot for the post-independence Day fireworks by the lake up there….

/Died and went to baseball geek heaven for a few days, at least. Plus that part of NY could more or less pass for a red state

Glad you all, especially the boys, had a great time. I bet you can’t wait until Kevin and Julia are big enough to enjoy the fun, too! :)

Hey glad you enjoyed the fight. And Dale and I are working on a Fan Film which will be much longer on the fight we performed. We got tons of fights and instructional videos on our facebook and youtube sites.

Fenway – My friend Bill and I had season tickets to the Riversharks for four years. Loved it. It’s a great stadium and the management treats its fans like gold. It was nice to get back there.

RT – Pretty soon, we’ll need group plans. Heh.

James – You guys were terrific, and my kids loved it. Judging by the fan reaction, a lot of other people loved it, too.

The way Camden is THESE days…they could USE the JEDI….AND Von Hayes!!!

Sounds like a good time (in a bad town) for sure.

    Batter UP!
Or should we say LIGHTEN UP?
(I’m probably the ONLY 57 year old in Indiana that has a lightsaber WITH sound effects…LOL)

    ;)

May the FORCE be with them…Always.

    Wyatt:

I am glad to say as one of the two members that put on the performance on Saturday for PaJedi, thank you very much for this review. It WAS a very beautiful day and we had a great time. Made even better by the win by the River Sharks.

I would like to invite everyone to a class but I am afraid that shameless promotion may be inappropriate here. So I will say that this week several Jedi groups in the area will be in West Chester for First Friday on the the 6th. Come out and join us. It all for having a good time and getting the different groups together.

Thanks again and “May the Force Be With Us All.”

Bob G – The stadium is perfectly located on the river. Far away from the war zone.

    Fenway – That’s awesome!

Dale – No worries. Shameless promotion is my middle name! If anyone is interested, there is more info on the PA Jedi website.
