American Airlines: Doing What We Do Best

By Wyatt Earp | July 8, 2010

That catchy slogan would be right on the money if they were referring to losing luggage.

Of course, American can brag that they’re the best, because they didn’t just lose a jacket or some frilly undergarments. Those things happen all the time. No, they lost guns! Guns that happen to belong to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security detail!

Four handguns belonging to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security officials are believed to have been stolen after American Airlines workers at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York lost luggage belonging to the bodyguards, WNBC TV reported Tuesday.

The suitcase was eventually discovered in Los Angeles, but the four guns were missing — and police believe they were taken. The bag was supposed to be on a flight to Washington, D.C., where Netanyahu met with President Obama at the White House.

Oh, just missed! I mean, Los Angeles instead of Washington, D.C.; that’s an honest mistake by the baggage handlers. It’s not like they are separated by about 3,000 miles!

Congratulations American Airlines. The Compton gang-bangers thank you.

According to Reuters the bags went from LA through Chicago and then to DC. I think Mayor Richie the Short had them stopped at O’Hare because he doesn’t like guns, or our wonderful youth groups in Chicago have some new toys.

I’d bet they never got out of JFK… More guns are stolen there between the cops and the baggage handlers than any other airport in the world!

They are probably headed to Mexico because we all know that the only guns they have in Mexico come from the United States. Well other than all those AK-47′s that you see all the drug dealers with. :-)

I’m thinking the same way as Old NFO. Those guns got plucked from the luggage at JFK, and the folks responsible for it dropped the sucker on a conveyor belt going the wrong damn way.

As far as I am concerned, Israeli security officials should be carrying their weapons in the cabin! I’d trust ‘em to waste a terrorist without missing a beat.

This is why I hate flying with firearms. I spend the whole trip worrying that the guv’mint-issued boomstick I checked with my baggage is going to vanish. There’s gotta be a better way to transport firearms than to check them into the cargo hold with granny’s makeup case.

What the article isn’t telling you is that a gunsmith who can use a mohel is the only one who can do reloads for those weapons. The reason is a full metal jacket isn’t normal in Jewish society.

I know- that was an awfully long way to go to make an obscure joke work :p

LDIV – Either way, someone is walking around with some shiny new pistolas.

Old NFO – Wow, that’s reassuring.

Ingineer66 – The dealers aren’t stupid. AK’s are the most durable weapons on Earth.

Sally Anne – I wholeheartedly agree. I would have no problem with them carrying on a plane with me and my family aboard.

John D – Agreed, but if there were a gun locker aboard, everyone would know where it is and make a bee-line for it in a terror attempt.

    Bill H – I admire your stick-to-it-iveness.

I say let everyone on board carry a gun if they are licensed to do so. There would be a lot fewer idiots interfering with flight crews and much less chance of some jackass trying light his underwear on fire.

If they made it all the way to L.A., an extra four hot Glocks wouldn’t even raise the temperature.
Two words for Bibi and his guards: Diplomatic Pouch.

The last time we flew American Airlines, we went to Albuquerque by way of Boston and Dallas – 13 hours!
AND they checked our carryons by mistake and wouldn’t get them back off the plane. Some customer service rep called after we got home to tell us about joining their frequent flyer club. I told her that as little as we fly, and with all the problems the airlines were having, I figured American wouldn’t be in business by the next time we had to fly.

In the last year I have done much research, by necessity, on the issue of shipping firearms.

Don’t bother taking them on the airplane; ship them to yourself.

    Absolutely legal under federal law.

Ingineer66 – But you know some knucklehead would try to shoot the shoe bomber, hit the window, and suck everyone out of the plane like Goldfinger.

Lergnom – That’s an awesome response.

    Henry – That’s great info!
