President Bush gave his farewell address tonight. He talked about the many positives and negatives of his eight years in the White House, and through it all he was the same president that so many conservatives have supported - through thick and thin.
Here is a notable excerpt:
“Like all who have held this office before me, I have experienced setbacks. There are things I would do differently if given the chance. Yet I have always acted with the best interests of our country in mind. I have followed my conscience and done what I thought was right. You may not agree with some tough decisions I have made. But I hope you can agree that I was willing to make the tough decisions.”
I agree. Nine months into his presidency, he was forced to deal with the largest terror attack this country has ever seen. Almost 3,000 Americans died, the World Trade Center was destroyed, and Islamists the world over laughed and cheered.
President Bush had the last laugh, however, because unlike London, Madrid, and Mumbai there has not been a terror attack on American soil since.
His successor was not impressed. Barack Obama mocked him, insulted him, and attacked his policies. President Bush addressed Obama tonight with these words:
Obama is “a man whose story reflects the enduring promise of our land,” Bush said in excerpts of his 8:00 pm (0100 GMT Friday) address, his last public appearance before welcoming his successor to the White House on January 20.
“This is a moment of hope and pride for our whole nation. And I join all Americans in offering best wishes to President-elect Obama, his wife Michelle, and their two beautiful girls,” said the outgoing president. (H/T - Hot Air)
A real class act. I had my disagreements with some of his policies, but I will truly miss him. Thank you, President Bush. Thank you for keeping us safe. In my opinion, history will remember you fondly.
