Prayers Please

By Wyatt Earp | September 16, 2008

If any of you good folks have a hotline to The Guy Upstairs, I’d appreciate some good words right about now. The missus had been sick for a day or so, and when she called the doctor, they told her to come in. Immediately we thought there was a problem with the baby, but when we got to the hospital they said the baby was (thankfully) fine.

However, after running a series of tests and screens, the doctor told the missus that she had an infection, and it was causing a very high fever. Her heart rate was through the roof, as was the baby’s. She’s on antibiotics and an IV, but it appears that she will be the guest of the hospital for a couple of days.

That leaves me in my greatest role ever: Mr. Mom. (See photo, top left.) Suffice to say, I’ll be really busy for a while, so I cannot guarantee posts on a regular basis. I’ll try to post a few in advance tonight, since I doubt I’ll be getting much sleep. Thanks for your understanding.

UPDATE (9/18): Okay, it’s going on Day 3 of Mrs. Earp Held Hostage. She is still fighting the infection, and despite some high fevers, she’s winning that battle. She is scheduled for an ultrasound of her kidneys this morning, to see it there are any stones or other regularities. The only real good news is that (so far) the baby is doing well. Thank God for small favors.

Me? You can count the hours of sleep I have had since Tuesday on one hand.

I will definitely be praying, Wyatt. I will be praying that your wife will truly be able to rest while at the hospital so that she can get well and that your friends and neighbors will have mercy on you and hands of help will come pouring in from everywhere. Wish I was close enough… I love to babysit.

I will be praying for your wife, your daughter, you and your three boys. That soon your wife will be home from the hospital feeling well again, that your daughter continues to thrive and that you and your boys take care of the home front until you are all together again.

I’ll be praying for you too Wyatt. There’s a wonderful book by Rumer Godden and in it, a character says “Prayer is a force, and it’s strong” I believe that.

Wyatt I can’t imagine how scared you and your wife must have been. I hope she gets the best care and is home soon.

Thanks, everyone. Things will be much better when:

    1. The missus comes home safe and sound.

    2. I can finally get some sleep.
