Who Ordered The Mineral Ice Colada?

By Wyatt Earp | May 28, 2006

It’s 9pm and my knees, back, and feet are killing me. Today’s first foray back into jogging did not go as smoothly as planned. And, as usual, I overdid it – trying to do the entire neighborhood loop at a full sprint. I was praying for death by the second block. Obviously, I am carrying too much weight to be jumping in so fast. My knees and lower back can attest to that.

I took a roundabout route around the neighborhood, and I thought I was making decent time. I had to stop a few times, but overall, I thought I would have done much worse. Considering how I felt, the route must have been a few miles.

After I finished, I checked my mileage on the car’s odometer: one lousy mile. Crap.

Baby steps, Wyatt. Baby steps.

One mile today….ten miles a year from now…keep the big picture in mind and ignore instant gratification. You’ll get there, dude.

Ease up Wyatt. You’re not gonna be Michael Johnson all of a sudden.

The golf pro I took lessons from put it this way, “If you were playing the piano, would expect to be playing Mozart so soon?” Of course my answer was yes.

You may not be Michael Johnson, but at least you aren’t Michael Moore.

Why are you torturing yourself like this? Work you up to it. Start out WALKING at a decent pace. After that, try power walking WHEN you are up to it.

You’ll do more harm than good if you try to accomplish all at once what your body deems impossible.

Stop being so freaking rough on yourself. The weight didn’t get there overnight, and it’s not going to come off overnight.

Now if I hear ONE more negative word from you, Mr. Earp, I personally am going to drive up to the NE and kick your ass.

    It’s called tough love.

As Badger is coordinating another rent out, you will soon be able to confirm that thin and “in shape” are not the same thing.

    Thank God for portable defibrillators.

RT – Haven’t run since, but fast walked every night since. I’ll even go today after dinner despite the brutal heat.

Fm – That would be my answer, too :)

    AH – Hell, who is?

Anon – I was walking on the treadmill, so I thought jogging would be a snap. Not so much. Maybe I’ll try and do the bulimia thing. It works for Kate Moss.

Prof – Sorry. I drove the course after I was done.

Sssteve – I heard screaming from my knees. Does that mean anything?

Deathlok – Friggin’ sweet!!! Hey everyone! Y’all wanna play some ice hockey???

SK – Heh, heh. You said “hard” . . . and “on.” Heh.

Are you tryin’ to kill yourself? Do the walk-fast thing first!
It is possible but not overnight! I have a friend who joined a gym and cut back on what he was eating and he lost over a 100 lbs. And, most importantly, has kept it off since losing it. You can do it!
