It Has Begun

By Wyatt Earp | September 13, 2011

Today is my youngest son’s first day of preschool. It is a chaperoned day, so a parent can be there with him. The first full day sans parents will come on Thursday.

There will be tears.

Oh, not from him, as he was the only kid in his entire class not screaming like a banshee on orientation night. The tears will come from Mama Earp, who has cried at the first day or school for every child so far. This week will be no different.

I was worried that Kevin would be his “home” self – a fuel-injected hurricane machine – but orientation was a good sign. With any luck, he’ll be like the other two boys; monsters at home and angels at school. Either way, I hope he has lots of fun.

My mom cried too, made me think I was going to be killed or something. That first school day ranked up there with finding my dead Granddad, who died in his chair playing solitaire at his roll top oak desk. I was three and pulled his hand to get him to go play and he fell on top of me then everyone else came in and started screaming.
Ahh the old memories: laughs, love and screams.

    Good luck Kevin.

Jon’s post reminded me that I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather did.

Not yelling and screaming like the passengers in his car.

Kevin will do just fine. But help the guy out and have him lose that Yankees shirt!

    LOL JT

BlackOrchid – Nope no such luck. I also remember them picking me up to push me into the coffin to give him a kiss good bye, only no one asked me first, I went ballistic I guess seeing him that way. So to this day I tell all my family and friends that I will not go to their funeral since I want to remember them the way they were. Nor are they to come to mine. I’m going to try and swing an Indian air burial if I can, that way I can stink up the woods and no-one will come around and bother me.

    Jon – Holy crap!!!

Orchid – Went very well. He was well-behaved and helped a lot. A younger kid kept dumping crates of toys into the floor. Kevin would walk over, put them back into the bin, and put the bin away. Amazing.

    JT – Well done!

Uncle Ray – Mrs. Earp’s idea for that pic. She got all the kids in their Yankees shirts on the beach. Julia was exempt, because she wanted to wear a dress.

Scarlett – My middle son’s godfather is from the Bronx. He spoils the kids rotten, and treated us me, Kyle, and Erik to a game at the Stadium in July, 16 rows from the field. They like the Yankees because of him.

Otherwise, they hate every team I like: Flyers, Broncos, Michigan Wolverines . . .

Wyatt hate to go back to an older thread but have you guys gone to Back to School night yet?

Am not super-happy with the curriculum change out here (both schools, VMA and SSPP are now using the same one as the publics, Core Curriculum or somesuch)

we weren’t given much info about the change which in itself makes me unhappy. It’s like they glossed over it. I would think changing the curriculum they use is a big change! Plus, why am I paying for Catholic school if they are just going to be just like the publics?!?!

Wasn’t sure if it was just out here or the whole Arch of Phila

Okay I did my own research and the new curriculum thing seems kosher, I’m going to keep an open mind about it. I guess like 28 states or something signed up with it for a nationwide curriculum. We’ll see how it goes.

    GroovyVic – Return. To. Sender.

    Captain – Go Bombers!

Orchid – The missus went to Back to School Night but she didn’t say anything untoward about it.
