He Left His Brain In San Francisco

By Wyatt Earp | September 20, 2011

When I was a senior at Saint Joseph’s University, we were given a say as to the entertainment that would appear at Alumni Weekend. Our choices were between the genius that was Ray Charles . . . or Tony Bennett. Natch, the majority of us wanted Ray because the man exuded cool. Also natch, the administration vetoed our choice and got Bennett instead.

I was pissed, because Ray was the better choice. And because Ray would never do this:

Legendary singer Tony Bennett said in an interview with Howard Stern that ‘we caused’ the 9/11 attacks. He also went on to say that President George W. Bush confided in him that the war in Iraq was a mistake.

Speaking on Stern’s Sirius Radio show, Mr Bennett, who describes himself as a pacifist, said: ‘They flew the plane in, but we caused it. Because we were bombing them and they told us to stop.’

Really, Tony? That’s the way it happened? It had nothing to do with the fact that radical Islamists consider us infidels and (according to their warped vision of the Koran) we must convert or die? That’s your stance? We f**king caused it?

Stern had asked the singer, a World War II vet, how the U.S. should deal with the terrorists responsible for the World Trade Center attacks.

‘But who are the terrorists?’ Mr Bennett said. ‘Are we the terrorists or are they the terrorists? Two wrongs don’t make a right.’

You got us, Tony; we’re the terrorists. Our military? Terrorists. The FDNY? Terrorists. The NYPD? Terrorists. The nearly 3,000 people murdered because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time? Terrorists. You sir, are a piece of garbage who should be publicly shunned forever more.

What’s even more infuriating is that Bennett had the balls to throw out this bullshit eight days after the tenth anniversary of the attacks.

Old NFO – I’d like to think we can chalk it up to Alzheimer’s . . . instead of galactic stupidity.

Maybe kick him in the cajones to improve his sopranic skills? It might just clear his mind.

It sounds like Tony Bennett is a few brain cells shy of sitting in a corner covered by his own waste and drooling.

He could join his Truther friend Edward Asner whom has already called for the nurses to clean him up.

‘They flew the plane in, but we caused it. Because we were bombing them and they told us to stop.’

Where were we bombing ‘them’ or anybody pre 9/11. That was before Afghanistan and Iraq, and definitely after Desert Storm. I may have missed it, but I didn’t see him called out on this misstatement, as far as being off timeline-wise.

Sounds like it’s time for Tony to retire. And if he’s so sympathetic to Islamic extremists, I know of a nice retirement villa on the eastern end of a certain Caribbean island where he might want to retire to. Lots of fresh air, sunshine, three squares a day and a free Koran. It don’t get no better.

Can we ship his sorry butt to the Islamic nation of our choice? He deserves to spend some time with those he feels so impassioned to defend. Demon nation that we are, we have been pretty darn good to this whack-a-doo!! Now, go away, Tony, and shut your pie hole!

Rodney, we’d occasionally lob stuff into Iraq, which I think is what he was referencing. Like when Clinton bombed the asprin factory or whatever it was. AQ listed stuff like that as one of many reasons why they attack us.

But that list also includes stuff like Gulf War I (ZOMG INFIDELS ON MUSLIM SOIL…even if it is to stop the invasion of a Muslim country), involvement in the Balkans (even though we were usually protecting Muslim population centers too), our actions against Tripoli in the 1800′s, not pressuring Spain to rejoin the Caliphate, and just existing. Basically a list of reasons to hate us no matter what; so I take what guys like Old Tony there say about such things with a quarry of salt.

Howdy Wyatt – Tony Bennett was a great singer (maybe still is, haven’t listened to him in ages). But most of the musical entertainers I like are also asshats, politically, but TB is the only one I’ve heard to spout such gibberish.

And it reminded me that the last time I was in a physical fight with someone was some 9 days after 9/11 (I lived and worked in Manhattan that day and lost family and loved ones at the WTC) and my friend said he said we needed to examine U.S. foreign policy to understand why “they” did it. That he said this in a modestly populated restaurant (it still felt “funny” going out to a restaurant). I totally lost it and SCREAMED at him that in fact the terrorists were nothing but a bunch of psychopaths and we have NOTHING to learn from them, and how DARE he blame the poeple killed on 9/11 for bringing it on themselves (his words, not mine).
We both stood up (to the horror of our wives and the other couple who’d joined us) and were screaming at each other face to face, leaning across the table. I suddenly realized that this was inappropriate behavior and wasted a nearly full bottle of decent red wine by smacking him in the head with it.
Strangely enough, the NYPD considered it up as a “squabble” among friends and I was not arrested, nor prosecuted.
    True Story.
And I don’t care how old Tony Bennett is, if he said that to my face, even today, then – assuming a bottle of something was around, the result would be the same.

Realwest…I seen da whole ting. He swung 1st..an’ you was only defending your wife…..And he was doing ecstacy in da bat-room too! Swear on da Koran, it’s all true, if ya need me to.

hutch1200 – Thanks but I don’t need any back up here.
It was some 10 years ago and the Statute of Limitations for assault is only 6 years.
But I do appreciate the offer but, ya know, ANYONE can swear on the Koran and it doesn’t mean anytin’ -swearing AT it is more satisfying!
And its sorta funny – when I told the cops about some of who I lost on 9/11 (two NYFD friends) they just said “no sweat!” and let it go at that.

The aspirin factory bombing as in response to the Al Qaida bombings of our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. So who were we bombing when those were blown up? We were bombing Serbs to protect Muslims and we were enforcing a no fly zone in Iraq to protect Kurds and Shiites.
