Hockey’s Back!
By Wyatt Earp | July 12, 2011
Well, for the kids, that is. Kyle and Erik will be playing another season in the Bustleton Bengals street hockey league. It has been something they have both been talking about for a while. The first games begin tonight, with Erik playing the early game and Kyle playing the later one.
Kyle was hoping he would get a chance to play goaltender again. He’ll get that chance, because his coach this year is the father of Jen – last season’s coach. When his coach called, he said he was “hoping” Kyle would want to play goalie again this year. Consider it done.
Erik, on the other hand, looks to pick up where he left off, by bringing the offense:
He really broke out of his shell last year, and has been playing very well in both hockey and soccer. Strangely enough, the son of Erik’s soccer coach is playing in the league – on Kyle’s team.
This season should be a lot of fun.
UPDATE: Erik’s team lost, 6-1. Guess who scored his team’s only goal? It was toward the end of the game, after getting stopped about a dozen times by the opposing goalie. Erik was miffed they lost, but was happy he cost the other goalie a shutout.
Kyle’s team tied, 1-1. The game was called because two kids on the other team were suffering from heat exhaustion. It was really hot. Kyle gave up a breakaway goal, but was stellar the rest of the game. The opposing coaches pulled him aside in the handshake line and told him he played great. All in all, it was a good day.
