PPD Shoots, Kills Armed Suspect

By Wyatt Earp | June 17, 2011

This is a completely justified shooting, but I wanted to put it out there just the same. Why? Because moments after I hit “Publish,” the trolls will be coming out of the woodwork claiming this incident is explained by:

1. The militarization of the police.
2. Police brutality.
3. Racism.

None of these excuses hold water, but people will stand by them, because they think they know more about this case than I do.

Separate shootings by police today have left one man dead and a second wounded. The fatal shooting occurred about 10:20 a.m. on the 7900 block of Rugby Street in the Stenton section of East Mount Airy, police said. No other details are available, except police confirm a man was killed by police gunfire.

Luckily for you I have the details, since I was working today. The officer involved approached the location and saw a male engaged in a domestic dispute with a female. While the officer was talking to both parties, the female’s brother (the suspect) arrived on the scene. The officer saw that the suspect was carrying a handgun, and he asked him if he had a permit to carry.

The suspect responded with, “Yeah, here’s my permit,” before drawing his gun. The officer shot the suspect, who died shortly afterward.

Yup sounds like racism and police brutality to me. Within 6 hours Gloria Allred will be representing the DV victim to get a big settlement from the City for pain and suffering.

What I don’t get is this mentality of people that have no fear of the law or prison or anything related to a civilized people. Maybe we should go back to the days when a murderer was hung a few days after being found guilty. People could see that justice was swift and sure and they would maybe think before they acted.

If only the militarized racist police weren’t so brutal. Also, someone should mention Hitler :P

I’m sure the suspect was just getting ready to turn his life around, too. Right after he tried to shoot the cop.

    A great quote

Malone: You just fulfilled the first rule of law enforcement: make sure when your shift is over you go home alive. Here endeth the lesson.

    Glad the officer was uninjured.

    That’s scary stuff.

See, that guy is too dumb to own a gun. Good thing his carry permit got canceled by this cop, right?

Seriously, that would be like me standing in front of a reeally big guy (think Michael Clarke Duncan) and saying, “You got a problem with me?” Don’t draw on a cop unless you’re ready to kill him or die, is what I say. (shakes head).

Domestic issue complaints are always the worst. I feel bad for all parties involved, the LEO did what he had to do, but it won’t make him sleep any better. The sister sees here brother shot and killed. Bad day for all! Sad.

For a second, I tried to get into the mindset of the dead guy. It hurt.

Someone’s messing this guy’s sister to the point the police are called.

There are three people there besides him: his sister, the jackwagon that’s messing with his sister, and the police officer who is there to try to diffuse the situation.

I don’t even like my sister, but if some guy was messing with her to the point that someone called 911, I would be aiming the gun at the guy. Not the cop.

Now his sister has one less person on her side and the guy who was messing with her is alive and well to mess with her another day. Mission accomplished, if your goal was to FAIL.

We are still dealing with all the crap from a justified shooting here. The subject rammed the agent’s vehicle and then assaulted the agent upon exiting the vehicle. Shot three times in the upper body.

The family and friends of this ‘victim’ have erected a memorial at the spot. The whole family smuggles marijuana, and his vehicle has marijuana too (over 200 lbs).

    …had marijuana too.

But I’m sure he was a quiet, friendly person and no one ever thought he’d turn to violence, right.
    A Righteous shoot. Period.

What was this guy on. You don’t go pointing a gun at a cop without expecting consequences.
It’s the cop I feel sorry for as he has to live with what has happened and his part in it all.

    Ditto, Jay.

The dead one could have defused the situation by answering the officer by actually showing his permit, or admitting he did not have one and saying he was there to protect his sister. Better yet, leaving the gun at home. Had he done either of those options, he’d be alive today. I’m not “blaming the victim.” I believe there may be two victims here: the woman being abused, and the officer who had to shoot to defend himself.

    In this case, I’d say:
    PERMIT REVOKED!

    ;)

    Now THAT is justice (served).
    Nice job by the PPD.

This one’s tougher than a lot, because based on what we know so far, dude could have just blown his stack because someone was hitting his sister. Lord knows I’ve done that a few times; though it was back in school and resulted in a jumping of the hitter, not in potential shooting.

Still, it’s dumber than hell to draw when there’s a cop around, much less draw down on one and make stupid remarks. Not that the paper seems to think so, based on the poetic waxing at the end of the article.

And outstanding coverage by the MSM. I would have hoped the Department would have had a spokesman at least but a face out there, even if there wasn’t anything that he could say, before the “grieving” family member got his 15 seconds.
