Illinois Prof: “USA” Chant Offensive To Muslims

The lovely and talented Kim sent me this big bushel of idiocy. It appeared as a Letter to the Editor in the Daily Illini, the student newspaper of the University of Illinois. I posted it in its entirety, but before you read it, you’ll need the duct tape.
The vast majority of 9/11 observances in this country cannot be seen as politically neutral events. Implicit in their nature are the notions that lives lost at the World Trade Center are more valuable than lives lost in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and elsewhere; that the motives of the 9/11 attackers had nothing to do with genuine grievances in the Islamic world regarding American imperialism; and that the U.S. has been justified in the subsequent killing of hundreds of thousands in so-called retaliation.
The observance at Saturday’s football game was no different. A moment of silence was followed by a military airplane flyover; in between, Block-I students chanted “USA, USA.” This was neither patriotism nor remembrance in any justifiable sense, but politicization, militarism, propaganda and bellicosity. The University is a public institution that encompasses the political views of all, not just the most (falsely) “patriotic.” Athletic planners should cease such exploitation for political purposes. They might at least consider how most Muslim students, American or otherwise, would respond to this nativist display; or better, Muslims and others that live their lives under the threat of our planes, drones and soldiers.
The overwhelmingly white, privileged, Block-I students should be ashamed of their obnoxious, fake-macho, chicken-hawk chant, while poverty-drafted members of their cohort fight and die in illegal and immoral wars for the control of oil. University administrators need to eliminate from all events such “patriotic” observances, which in this country cannot be separated from implicit justifications for state-sponsored killing.

The problem with “University Academic Professionals” is that they’re cut off from a little place I like to call “The Real World”. I’d pull my kid out of there so fast, he wouldn’t have time to pack.
I am offended by -”The overwhelmingly white, privileged, students…” Yeah, because everybody knows that all white folks are rich. I am also offended being labeled “white”. So, from now on, please do not refer to me as Caucasian or White. I prefer “creamy” or “off-beige”. Thank you.

Of all the jobs on the planet I still believe being 20+ years out of college that the easiest job in the world is a fully Tenured College Professor. Teach once or twice a week, collect a 6 figure salary, have the power to screw up people’s lives and get to become a Progressive Asshole. I am personally glad that this bothers him to this exent.
In fact I want him to dwell on his points as he witnesses them over and over and it drives him completely utterly insane. So insane in fact, that he emmigrates, joins a jihadi group and starts shooting at American soldiers
who shooting back place one 190 gr. 7.62 x 59 mm NATO round squarely in his brainpan, and then as he painfully fades into eternity he hears…..USA! USA! USA!

- Tuition and fees $13,658 – 18,386. That’s a pretty average, not “privileged”, cost of tuition.

When a country believes that it doesn’t have the best society currently available then it will be taken over by another culture that has no such moral doubt. While David Green has the right to say what he thinks about the morality of the USA, his detractors likewise have the right to point out where he is wrong or mistaken and how he enjoys the privileges of such a society that he seems to abhor.

Professor Bryan – The shame of all of this is that many people think every person on the university level thinks along his lines. There are plenty of hardcore liberals in academia, of course, but there are just as many good people who prefer to educate rather than indoctrinate their students.

AmHistory Teacher – Very well said. Green probably knows that he could never express an opinion in Muslim countries, so he supports them from the safety and security of his American home, under the protection of his American armed forces.

I sent an email to the d-green address. Fortunately I simply stated how I felt about the letter seen here.
I received a reply stating the he is not the Prof. D Green that wrote the letter and asked me where I got his email. He said he and his family have been deluged with hate mail and threats of violence.
I see that there is another email address posted later. Is there any way to verify which if either are the correct contact?
And please, anyone who reads this do not make threats of violence. That can only hurt everyone involved and will not do anything to help.
