Boston To Limit Sugary Drink Sales?

By Wyatt Earp | September 20, 2010

In a country chock full of Big Brothers, a little town in a little state is about to overtake them all. Move over California, New York, and Pennsylvania, there’s a new Nazi in town.

Boston, in its infinite wisdom, is considering a plan to limit sales of sugary drinks – public opinion be damned. There are even talks of outlawing sales of soda, etc. You see, the liberals know better than the citizens, and they would like to control your life from cradle to grave.

I already have John Kerry and the Red Sox. Like I needed another reason to hate Boston?

Concerned about the girth of employees and visitors to government agencies, Boston officials are weighing — gingerly — whether to restrict or even prohibit the sale of calorie-laden refreshments on city-owned property.

The city has convened influential health, education, and housing leaders to develop a policy that aims to reduce consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages. While discussions are ongoing, Bill Walczak, head of a community health center and a member of the city’s panel, said, “Somebody has to take a stand, and if it isn’t the government and health care institutions leading the way to a healthier lifestyle, who’s going to do it?’’

Here’s a radical idea, Mr. Balczak: Why not let the consumers decide what is best for them? I realize it is difficult for someone who lives in BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS to understand the concept of freedom, but our country was founded upon the idea!

Just another reason not to visit Boston. A real pity that the cradle of American liberty has gone off the deep end of marxism.

My relatives up in Vermont still like to call those southern state people (southern to them at least) ‘Tories’ still after 230 some years. Iyah!

Although lately Vermont has been pumping out some radical lefties also :(

Just wondering how much longer it will be before Massachusetts starts surrounding their borders with barbed wire and watchtowers, with all entrances and exits from the state gated and heavily guarded, to keep the last few productive citizens from fleeing to New Hampshire…

While I agree that government limiting my freedoms is wrong, I don’t feel like paying for all of these people’s health insurance bills for gastric by-pass, diabetes medicine, etc. just because they’re too weak willed and lazy to limit their caloric intake.

Robert B. – Maybe we can saw Massachusetts off and push it out to sea?

Jon – Two words: Howard Screamin’ Dean!

Wes S – Yeah, no one wants to go in, so they better keep everyone from fleeing post haste.

Randal – No worries. With ObamaCare, no one will have to pay for any health care. And the cost will go down!!!

Randall- I don’t feel like paying for rescuing hikers from Pikes Peak or Nancy Pelosi’s BO-tox. But then again this supposed to be America and if you want to ride a motorcycle without a helmet then go for it. Who decides what activities we have a “right” to partake in? Obama? Cass Sunstein? Hilliary? Please. The democrats and liberals get bent out of shape about Bush listening to terrorist conversations about killing us but think nothing about the food police, eco-police or any of the other crap they put Csars in charge of. That’s why the have NO credibility.

Wyatt – That would be a start. Could we follow up with San Francisco and NYC? (I did spend some time in “upstate” New York, and I do enjoy the scenery and generally the people there. However, IMHO, if they gave the state an enema, it would be delivered in Manhatten.)

Hey dumbass, I just said I don’t agree with it. Stop being such a political neanderthal.

Randel – it’s easy to spot the demokratz in the crowd. They always revert to personal insults and name-calling when they run up against the truth!

Spoken like a true liberal. You bitch but have no credibility or solutions. You can’t MAKE fat people get thin by taking away everyone elses Pepsi yet liberals are always ready to use the government and our taxes to try.
So you don’t agree with limiting our freedom but you don’t feel like you should have to pay for others? Does that apply to hang gkliding, jet skiing, soccer, football, little league as well? Your paying for them right now. Sounds more like you don’t agree with the government limiting YOUR freedom. Fat people- that’s OK. Smart stuff.

I think America’s CRADLE OF LIBERTY was recalled by Underwriters Laboratories due to the off-chance that we somehow may fall out of it and strike our heads on that hard floor (ALSO soon to be recalled or otherwise banned).

Trouble is…THIS type of nanny-state legislation is killing us a LOT faster in a lot more ways.

Yes..ONE more reason to hate Boston!

    Good call.

    Stay safe.

Have a cold? Stay away from my kids, I don’t want them to get fat –
    Yet Another Virus-Obesity Link
“New research shows that youngsters who were infected by adenovirus 36, which causes the common cold and slight gastrointestinal upset, were an average of 50 pounds heavier than children who hadn’t been infected by this particular strain.”

Eating to excess, more than needed, is a cause of obesity. But it is not the only one. Even “improved” food dyes (think Easter eggs) have come under suspicion for the noticeable percentage-of-obese increase over the past four or five decades.

  21. Ingineer66 Says:
    September 21st, 2010 at 11:36 pm

John A WTF? Any youngster that is 50 pounds heavier than average needs medical help. Unless their definition of youngster is different than mine. 50 pounds is huge for kids that only should weigh 60 pounds.

But it is for the children or so say the libtards.
