A Union You Want To Support

By Wyatt Earp | August 12, 2010

My summer vacation officially began yesterday. A delightful nine days away from police officers, felons, and the division’s mice. We started the festivities off with a bang yesterday, by taking the boys to their first Philadelphia Union game. And yes, while the stadium is in “scenic” Chester, it is an absolutely gorgeous venue. We were in Row V, pretty high up, and could still see all of the action well.

The fans were terrific, and the experience was more like an English League game than a World Cup match. There wasn’t a vuvuzela in sight, but there was plenty of singing and chanting to keep the boys motivated. It also didn’t hurt that the Union scored seven minutes in. Kyle and Erik jumped up and went crazy, as they were really getting into the game.

Unfortunately, Real Salt Lake tied the score a few minutes later. The rest of the game was spent with end run after end run, but no one could notch another goal. Both teams had chances, like RSL did here. If you listen closely, you can hear Kyle and Erik, shout “Miss!” at the :07 mark.

Union goalie Chris Setiz made the save, and he preserved the 2-2 tie against the reigning MLS champions. It was a great night, and the boys had a blast. They are already asking when we can go back.

Hey Wyatt, enjoy the vacation. But you’ve got a lot of catchin’ up to do if you want to compete with Michelle O.

USAdmiral – Yep, the rest of next week will be spent in Sea Isle City, NJ.

JT – We’re sure. We named one Mr Jingles.

RT – Screw that! I just want to drink rummy concoctions all week!

Fenway – Keep your fingers crossed.

Robert B. – Yeah, this is our first and only vacation this year.

Wyatt, if you’re into it, crabbing was very, very good when I was down in the area (Stone Harbor) last week. The results of our efforts were very, very, very good indeed.

If you’re naming them, you’re not trapping them.

I foresee a million mouse march in your future.

Bob – I used to do that all the time on vacation, but I don’t think the kids will go for it. The in-laws are coming down for a few days, which means we can finally have our anniversary dinner – seafood, of course!

    JT – Claiming they’re oppressed.

Took my son crabbing for the first time when he was 6. He’s now 20 and still insists we do that every vacation. It’s actually quite a cool experience.
