Bad Economy? What Bad Economy?

By Wyatt Earp | December 11, 2009

fedworkers-salariesRecession got you down? Are you stressed about 10% unemployment? Do you wish you had not only a good job, but a good job that has seen an increase in salaries of late?

Well, does the federal government have the job for you! Big government is taking care of business, and business is booming.

USA Today reports that federal salaries have increased rapidly during the recession, leading to an explosion of six-figure salaries in the public sector:

The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data.

Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession’s first 18 months — and that’s before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.

Federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector.

Bureaucracy is the real recession-proof industry. The numbers are mind-boggling. In 18 months, the number of federal employees making over $100K have increased 46%. The number making over $150K has more than doubled. (H/THot Air)

And before you ask, this stat is for federal jobs. Peons like us municipal employees have job security, but we aren’t swimming in the benefits of salary increases.

(Actually, Philadelphia police officers and firefighters have been working without a contract since July 1st, but who’s counting?)

And those are NOT for DOD jobs either… DOD didn’t go under the new pay system.

It must be because the “best and the brightest” are going to the federales. It is market based right? Surely this is not a total waste of taxpayer dollars?

Please, someone tell me everything is ok, it is merit based, objectively sanctioned and all the taxpayers are saying yea! yea!

I am sure the “pay czar” ok’d this and now I should feel good about it.

Oh, is there any way to speed up the election process, like next week for the entire congress and the white house. Surely, there has to be a way to rid us of parasites.

That is what happens when your employer has a printing press that prints money. Like many State and local government employees, we are working without a contract for over a year and did not get a raise this year and took 3 non-paid furlough days per month with no end in sight.

Haven’t you heard? Bad economic news is all eeeeeeevil right-wing propaganda to sell gold! Those evil right-wingers must be making up the record deficit spending or high unemployment numbers…..it’s all a conspiracy, I tells ya!

Old NFO – Why would they? The current administration is not exactly keen on the troops.

Ralph – From my understanding, a lot of there salaries are going to desk jockeys. Not like they are going to law enforcement, etc.

Becky – I am sure he deserves his salary. :)

Ingineer66 – Yeah, Arizona state workers are about to get IOUs. Nice, huh?

Fenway_Nation – You know who’s to blame for this? Karl Rove.
