Fatties Of The World Unite!

By Wyatt Earp | September 9, 2009

Fatty Fat Fat FatA new study has determined that fat cells may not be so worthless after all. Apparently, they can be used to fight disease and possibly regenerate tissue.

RT sent me this, and she had the class and decency to not say, “Hey fat ass, keep eating the Twinkies!” Luckily for me, I am less fat now.

You know that fat in your body you wish you didn’t have? It turns out those cells could be used to create stem cells that one day may be able to cure disease.

Quick! Someone tell Michael Moore and Rosie O’Donnell they can be productive citizens again!

Scientists at Stanford University School of Medicine have discovered that the millions of fat cells removed during liposuction can be easily and quickly turned into induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells, more easily than the skin cells that researchers used when the first iPS cells were created in 2007.

These iPS cells, like stem cells derived from embryos, can be turned into many different kinds of cells, and researchers believe they eventually could be used to regenerate tissue for organs and repair damage. (H/TCNN)

Maybe it’s the Catholic in me – or the eeevvviiilll Republican – but I would be a lot more comfortable with transformed fat cells than embryonic stem cells. But don’t go by me; I’ve been told that I am a right wing hate monger.

I’m not a believer, but I’m against embryonic stem cells too, I don’t like the idea of creating life to experiment on it.

I closely read every stem cell “breakthrough” story I can find and I have yet to find one where the stem cells they used are embryonic.
    Seriously, not one.
I’ve said this in a bunch of threads and I have yet to have anybody link to a story where they use embryonic stem cells.
The “journalists” always conflate them and confuse the issue. In the story they’ll talk about spinal fluid stem cells being used and then later on the in the story give Bush a hard time for making stem cells illegal.

Rick – I hope they have never been reproductive.

MeToo – Cue the Olsen Twins.

Veeshir – Well, there was this episode of Family Guy where they worked . . . /sarc

I think they would be useful as “Sap Rollers” a civil war siege device used at Vicksburg.

This is a cool development. However, did anyone else notice this: “induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells”?

What the hell… are these researchers employed by Apple?

Don – Bawahahahahaha! “Everyone get out of the way!”

Strings – Bastards are into everything!
