Celine Dion To Buy The Montreal Canadiens?
By Wyatt Earp | April 10, 2009
Ladies and gentlemen, the Apocalypse is upon us.
TORONTO – Canadian pop star Celine Dion, Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte and Quebec cable giant Quebecor Media have emerged as potential bidders for the Montreal Canadiens NHL team.
Quebec broadcaster Radio-Canada said Wednesday that the Bank of Montreal has signed confidentiality agreements with 10 potential suitors who have until 5 p.m. Thursday to submit formal bids to 80 percent majority owner George Gillett, a Denver-based sports team and events promoter. (H/T – )
I already dislike the Canadiens, and my 8-year old despises them. This would be just another reason to root against them. Can you imagine seeing that human exoskeleton sitting in the owner’s box on game night? That’s the stuff nightmares are made of.
Personally, I would rather see Shania Twain purchase the team. She really seems to be a fan . . .

Plus, having to watch them sing “My heart will go on” in French after they do the Canadian national anthem will delay the game times.
Application, denied!

In each intermission they’ll have performers doing circus acts and she’ll make the players wear new sequined and spandexed britches. Yeah, I said britches!

Not being a hockey fan, I (mis)read this headline a little differently. For a moment, I was concerned about why Montreal was putting their citizens up for sale.

No I suppose you would rather the team to be bought up by an American and transferred to the states. It’s no wonder we Canadians get crapped on by everyone we enjoy crapping on each other too much. Grow up and try respecting yourself and others.

The U.S. has enough hockey teams, maybe Canada should just work on turning the ones they have into good ones.
Bulldog…go relax and lighten up a bit.
(Btw., some of us from the U.S. (meaning me) have had a close relative that was a season ticket holder for the Canucks, played pond hockey, and who was also connected to/friends with members of Parliament)…just saying.)

Vincent – I’m not staying up any later for that!
RT – Hey, there is no cursing here!!!
Dorkelina – Must be a Rangers fan.
Bitter – I bid two bits!
Super Fan – I want to see a Habs/Bruins first round. Should be sweet.
Bulldog – Um, no. First, the Canadiens ARE Canada, and they should never leave. Second, Celine Dion doesn’t give a whit about hockey, and I figured having an owner who did would help the team much more. And finally, get bent.
Captain – 100% Correct!!!
RT – I heard they want a team back in Quebec. Hell, they didn’t support the Nordiques (or the Winnipeg Jets) when they were there the first time!
